My last.fm most-listened of the last seven days:
1 Broadcast and The Focus Group 46 2 High Wolf 24 3 Fuck Buttons 21 4 Signer 16 5 Leyland Kirby 11 5 The Trysting Tree 11 7 Dolphins Into the Future 10 7 Wereju 10 9 The Notwist 9 9 The Black Heart Procession 9 11 Iibiis Rouge 7 11 skultroll 7 11 Tomutonttu 7 14 Vitalic 6 15 Deep Magic 4
just an aside, i am going to see the FUCK BUTTONS next month because of this board...i dont even really like them, but after hearing some of what people are on about them on here, i introduced them to my friend who is into that type of stuff moreso than i.
also, i moved all weekend, so the only music i heard was when i saw THE OSS, THE SO_SO GLOS and TITUS ANDRONICUS on saturday night.
then this morning i found out the venue where it was at is not doing shows after december, which is heartbreaking. MODIFIED ARTS has been the only consistent diy show space in phoenix since 1998(ish).
it started as one of the only things of note in its area. it was the gentrifying forebearer, now surrounded by art galleries and various hip/cool things (some of which ARE really neat little spaces). the shit part is that it is one of the only venues doing the wide range of shows that it does there-and it is stopping to become a full-time gallery. because thats what the area needs, the 47th gallery that wont let you dance in downtown phoenix. sad.

Oh and thanks to Warren for reminding me about the Skids on his ancient Jukebox thread. Last night I remembered i had a compilation tape WINTERS OF DISCONTENT: THE PEEL SESSIONS 77-83 (1991) that i bought about 15 years ago that had a recording of their track "of one Skin". However this tape was lost to the ether and the album has been long out of print...
But thanks to the internets, someone managed to make a digital rip and today i downloaded a copy and am now listening to it again. Thanks Uncle Warren!

Listening to new Chevelle a lot. NIN in concert off the television. Also Tool quite a bit of late. Some Soundgarden and Shinedown and Theory of a Dead Man as well.
A large portion of the current listening is due to exploring individual artists from Tacopunch's mixes (which of course lurk here: http://freakangels.com/whitechapel/comments.php?DiscussionID=1192); the upshot of which is that I'm loving Die!!Die!!Color!! from the scraps I can find on the web - they sound sort of like Atari Teenage Riot crossed with Bis with the guy from Refused singing (fragments here: http://rockasoo-thegoodmusic.blogspot.com/2007/01/die-die-color-beauty-shadow-tomato-star.html). I am very fond of 'x crossed with y' band descriptions, despite hating this kind of lazy bullshit with practically any other medium, so brace yourself.
These explorations also led me to this compilation: http://vgmdb.net/album/15345 (Speed King Vol.2) From which I am enjoying Missile Chewbacca, and Leopaldon (who are named after Japanese Peter Parker's giant robot, naturally) - this sounds like a dance music that kept growing from the embryo of those guys who listened to Hawkwind, the Radiophonic Workshop and Bolt-Thrower while working on splash screen music for Atari ST pirate game compilations, rather than being hijacked by Southend seafront cruising scum and the Euro pop charts.
On a similar bent both DJ Sharpnel and M1dy have new albums out, bot of which I've only given a cursory listen.
Meanwhile, Dirty on Purpose sound like My Bloody Valentine or Band of Susans, Gotye (my wife says you say it 'Gaultier') a bit like how you thought that guy who did Frontier Psychiatrist would sound before the disappointment set in, and I think I like approximately half of every Genghis Tron song I hear, and have decided to like Lady GaGa since I find her pop-mongrel image so appealing even if her music inspires a lengthy meh.
It was incredible. A little ways down the project page are links to the audio of the full 2 hour piece. I don't deny that the space contributed enormously, but I find the audio still definitely worth listening to.
Ideally over headphones. In a quiet candle-lit room.
