Saw this on CNN this morning: Google Wave released for Beta testing.Google’s new communication and collaboration tool, which they say is their attempt at “what email would look like if it were designed today,” integrates aspects of e-mail, social networking, instant messaging, and real-time editing.
I for one think this is both a logical conclusion of recent tech thought process and something I totally didn't see coming. It should be very cool if enough people adapt.

John Scalzi got into the beta and here's his impressions.
In short: E-mail isn't going away any time soon and while it might be useful for certain things, other existing tech (e-mail, FB, Twitter, even IRC) probably work better. -

I just got my beta access to this, and have 5 invites I'm setting aside for Whitechapel members. For anyone interested in getting one of those, send me an email with the address you want it sent to (my email can be found on my profile here). Or post here if you don't care if it's visible to the public... that's up to you. It's first come, first served.
Just for clarity-- According to the invite function in Google Wave, invitations will not be sent immediately, so I have no control over how long it takes.
@Warren - If you don't already have it, you'll be getting an invite to it via your Gmail dump address whenever they send it out, should you be interested. -

It takes two or three days. I have an account but i can't send invites yet, i don't know why =/

@D- - Interesting. Upon opening my account, I had 20 invites, sitting in an invite message. Then again, as it hasn't told me who sent me it, maybe I actually got picked due to actually applying for the beta itself. If that's the case, then I suppose it's possible that direct invites from the beta test application process come with a bundle in hand? Who knows, I don't work for Google, I'm just happy to have it, and to be able to share... LOL. -

@Frekky - No problem, gotcha covered already. I've sent out 3, and am shifting another over into the batch, so there's 3 left. If the others aren't completely spoken for by friends, I may have more in the same batch.
Off to a wedding and reception for the next 12 hours, so I'll tackle any invite requests I get after I get back. Time to fill the flask for my sanity now... -

I wish they didn't make this so exclusive. Almost no one I know has Wave, so I'm sitting there fiddling around with it. I imagine it'd be more fun if I could actually see how it works in real time...!

@D- - How many of these have you covered, and do any still need to be covered.
@Jess and @taphead - Where do I find my actual address? I'm assuming right now it's firstname.lastname(at)googlewave.com. Would this be correct? -

Not necessarily -- when you created your account it asked you to create a username. It should be that username@googlewave.com. If you click on your own name under contacts it'll tell you your address.

@D- -Groovy. I've still got 2-3 I can spare here if need be. I've got no problem continuing to feed invites to those here that want them, as I get more. Figure that the more of us here that have them, the more we can put it to use for various things, potentially.
