It just keeps getting better and better.

Luke is right about one thing -- the Freakangels need to get their skills up. KK was so close to keeping that damn bike together...

That being said, yes, I want something nasty to happen to him. I bet Arkady could fuck him up right proper.

no allergies. no ill. the sky looks like anything could happen, and as it is fall here, that is not too far off the mark. hope everyone's ick fades quickly so that the season can be enjoyed in health and peace instead of from the depths of a box of kleenex.

Holy fuck! brilliant tension, brilliant look, fabulous and wonderful and all things good!
    Well done, everyone!

Best of weekends to you all...

    Ho, Whitechapel.

When I read this episode, one thought rings out: Who here thinks KK actually needs that helicopter to fly?
    • CommentTimeOct 2nd 2009
I love the way the rain adds to the physics of KK's tumble and slide. Fantastic action artwork here. I just read all 70 issues over the past week catching up, as I'm new to the story, and I think this episode had the best action art of the series.

Now that I have to wait a week instead of just clicking through to the next issue, I love that my first live one is a literal cliffhanger.

@ZJVavrek - I do, she hasn't explored telekinesis enough to fly on her own. Though I do wish she had used her powers more when she was tumbling everywhere.

@docquan - Sure, Arkady might be able to, but there are two problems: First, she's busy saving the other FreakAngels, 'cause she's the only one who knows how to teleport. Second, I feel like Luke merely underestimated Arkady before. If Luke really has explored their powers, he might be able to take Arkady. Last time she messed with him, he wasn't expecting it at all, he had shrugged her off like everyone else. This time, he knows she'll try it, and knows she is powerful, so he will be prepared.

@ Warren and Paul - Thank you for another lovely episode. It doesn't seem like much happened, but that's part of why I like FreakAngels. Since you give us an issue each week, we don't have long to wait, more detail is great, I love your pacing. The artwork is beautiful Paul, thank you.

Bonjour Ariana, and thanks for being so nice with us lot every week.

I must be getting insane: I'm scared for KK.

The action is worth the length of the episode, Warren got Paul into drawing something extraordinary. It is awesome to see what Paul's art has turned into. I mean the first pages of the first episodes were already great, but my, now, look what we've got.

I've got frogs in my stomach about KK. Now that is incredible.

    Dear Sirs Funnybook Men -
Since I'm sure neither of you are very busy, please make this a daily, or barring that, a twice-daily comic.
The guy you're entertaining for free.

p.s. - I'll go buy something now. My attaché just handed a note that seems to indicate that there's some loose association between money, time, production and distribution.

Going to the vet with my cat in a little bit. Hoping some antibiotics will help her.

So the REAL cliffhanger will be NEXT week, and then the wait for Volume Four to start and find out what happens to everyone!

Everything just keeps getting bigger and better.

@ZJVavrek - I said that last week. Looks like we might be closer to finding out.

Next week's last panel: KK hovering with her nose six inches off the ground, proclaiming "Fucksticks!"

Next week's last panel: Arkady teleports in just in time to find Kate's butchered corpse on the floor, her assailant already long gone.

@ rickiep00h- I have a feeling that KK's powers might kick in under these conditions. I would love to have that exact thing happen, but we'll see what Warren has up his sleeves.

I think Kirk's in shock, seeing as how he has a vacant look in his eyes as he stares off into space. Can any of the fine people at Avatar tell me when in November I can expect the FreakAngels vol. 3 HC to hit stores? I should very much like to get this as a birthday gift for my self. ^_^

These people need to stop being for the most part afraid of their powers. Other then Akardy they seem to stick to what comes ease and or what they can do without giving away that they are different. Time I think to work the power like they work their other skills. I for one think Mark has been doing that since he left.

Fantastic rainjob - best rain art *ever*!

Bittersweet week for me: we deposited son 'n heir at uni last Fri and the empty nest seems just that; he's having the time of his life of course, oscillating between halls and an anarcho-vegan squat while sampling the other myriad delights of The Smoke ...

It's a real tragedy for KK that the developers of the building she crashed into didn't splurge on the gutters. Even soaking wet with metal plates on her knees and toes, she can't weigh more than what? 130-140lbs?

it appears such a naturalistic motion study that I had the alarming notion that Paul might've recorded an actual test crash with a stuntwoman and a gyrocopter, to serve as a guide.

I imagine he went with the more economical and Lucasfilm-proven method of using action figures and dollhouse.

I wonder how much of it has been the external pressure from the world to hide their abilities that makes the average Freakangel very modest and focused in their abilities and how it plays on their attitude towards it. Most of them probably spent a great deal of their lives trying to 'fit in' and were still thinking like that while Luke, Mark and Arkady sat down to figure out what they could really do. Breaking out of that mindset must be pretty tough even after The End Times since most of their efforts have gone into rebuilding.

@Tpete: Welcome to your first week of nail biting! I wish you many more and please accept my sympathies in advance for whenever the next skip week occurs.

As for my own trials, I have a single painting in a group show and the opening reception is tonight. Only the second gallery show I've been in and my first in the Americas. Nothing big, though and any nervousness will certainly be alleviated by the drinking bout my fellow artist intends before we go to the gallery.

HOLY WOW! Brilliant work Paul! A bunch of pages with no text whatsoever and they make so much noise! I could hear the crashing, crunching of the helicopter and KK's ragged breathing with only the pictures to go by. Seriously tense, violent and beautiful! _WOW_

Week has culminated in a huge batch of nerves. Trying to tell myself it doesn't really matter - because it doesn't. Things might change or not but it's not like the news I'm waiting on will make anything worse. I fucking hope.

Didn't Luke swear revenge on Arkady after she stopped him from zombifying his ex? After she gave him the overdose treatment?

Seems like he could pretty easily know where she's gonna turn up, and can answer the question of what happens when a bald freak angel tries to teleport into airspace that's currently occupied by something else. It'd sure be one evil cliffhanger if one panel shows Arkady teleporting and the next shows the airspace around KK filled with parts from the chopper... hopefully Luke turns out to be only MOSTLY evil.

@btx - naw, Luke'd just show up and shoot her. He's got four bullets left.

@ Tpete - welcome to the world of Freakangels. Wait'll your first REAL skip week. Where you actually have to WAIT a week to find out what happens because Paul's sick or Warren just hates us.

When might Ariana Appreciation Week might occur? BECAUSE IT MUST HAPPEN. Let's hear it for her, folks. She's our favorite.

Now that's a hard landing. Broken ribs and internal injuries anyone?

Kirk looks surprisingly serene on page 6. Relaxed now that help's arrived, or concentrating on stemming blood loss?

I also would like to favourite Ariana, have to have one heroine that's safe from the upsetting pen of Mr Ellis.

The acceleration in the story is dizzying. The last 2 eps have covered about 5-10 seconds of real time?
Maybe only a minute's passed since the storm broke at the start of ep67 and now Luke's free, Kirk's down, KK's clinging by her freakfingernails to some dodgy-looking guttering a hundred feet off the ground and THE STEAMCOPTERBIKE IS NO MORE - WHAT?
*hideous agonised scream takes a long time to tail away into silence*
I know I know, no crying.
I've never hated angled planes of rain-slicked slate before.

Wow, I wouldn't waste a good dollhouse or action figure. I've just seen too much anime with mechanical things crashing into other things XD
Thanks for all the compliments this week guys! We put a hell of a lot of work into this sequence. Wanted to give the bikecopter a fittingly dramatic farewell. It was quite sad to draw.
