    It seems to be that time again. I'll field questions for a while, provided they're not answered in the following FAQs or at the FREAKANGELS FAQ.

    FAQ:

    If details seem hazy, then that's often because they are and requests for clarity will get you nowhere:

    IGNITION CITY #5: delayed by the switch in printers, I believe. Shipping next week.

    ANNA MERCURY: same problem, I believe. Shipping today.

    DESOLATION JONES: on hiatus, returning eventually, at least to conclude the second story in some (possibly truncated) fashion -- all original notes and scripts lost, as with FELL and NEWUNIVERSAL.

    DOKTOR SLEEPLESS: Minor schedule bumpage continues.

    FELL 10: on pause -- still trying to reconstruct scripts from lost computer. Gave up trying to reconstitute lost work, have commenced a new story for #10.

    NEWUNIVERSAL -- same. There are pages in hand, but I want to have rebuilt a couple more scripts before we restart.

    STEALTH TRIBES -- no news right now.

    DOKTOR SLEEPLESS: the book is roughly planned as three or four "acts." I choose not to nail it down to a specific number of episodes right now, at least in public. Extenuating circumstances mean the next issue will be a little delayed.

    ASTONISHING X-MEN: on a slightly extended schedule, I think, probably not QUITE monthly, maybe six-weekly.

    PLANETARY: no idea about collections.

    PROSE WORK:

    LISTENER: getting there. Again, this is a reconstitution issue, I lost almost 30,000 words in the computer/backup death. It's not looking good.

    OTHER MEDIA

    RED: I'm told there's a script, I haven't seen it. Otherwise, what you read in the film press is usually news to me too!

    CASTLEVANIA: No idea. I wrote it, they get to do what they want, whenever they want, my part is over.

    OCEAN: No idea.

    DEAD CHANNNEL: Dead at this time. Plans are afoot.

    GRAVEL: there's no timeframe on this. I commence work on the script within the next couple of months, but this isn't like a comic or even a novel, so don't look for a release date or anything....

    GI JOE: RESOLUTE - I've heard there's a DVD on the way, but I know nothing about it and have no involvement in it.

    I know that you do a lot of reading about various subjects. Is there a particular subject (individual, time period, group of people, weird event) that you've always wanted to write on and why?

    When you have had the initial idea for a story, the first flash of inspiration, how do you develop it? This question might sound a bit vague, so as an example: my current, very inexperienced method would be to start writing without worrying about plotholes and polish, just to flesh out the concept and pick the good ideas out of the ocean of shit I've just spawned. Call it the first draft of the first draft. What's your method for developing an idea?

    Does it have a middle and an end? Is it something that actually develops into a story with a shape to it, or is it just a nice idea? Not every idea has a middle and an end to it.

    @twentythoughts -- There's a picture of Warren without a beard out there somewhere. It was published in some magazine, but none of us who have seen it apparently thought to save it for blackmail purposes.

    EDIT: We all prefer to think that Warren was born with the beard.

    Well, there's a few stages to this.

    1> the version I was pissing around with on LJ years ago.

    2> so I was rewriting that. And it started slow, but as I re-envisioned the whole thing, it started to get good to me.

    3> and then I lost the lot. And, frankly, trying to rebuild it has been impossible. The energy's gone from it, I can't find the tone it had before, it's like having to chew a bit of gum you found under your bed that had probably been stuck to the leg for three years. Hopeless.

    Have you ever had an idea for a story (or a scene in a story) that was so extreme, or likely to be controversial, that you have decided against continuing? Either because it would be liable to misinterpretation by cretins or would cause trouble for your publishers?

    in the past i've read your reasons for not having done so but do ever regret not going the 2000AD route like so many of your UK contemporaries? Is there a 2000AD character that you'd have particularly liked to have a go at?

    Also - is the post apocalypse novel that you mentioned doing after CLV in the pipeline?
