Yeah, I thought that it was the Wizard of Northhampton at work too. "Perhaps some kind of magical experiment", I thought. Then I read the last post on The Rules and I felt a little bit like I'd been told there was no Santa all over again.

Loving the mustachioed Glycon, btw - reminds me of why I used to like the Fighting Fantasy books so much as a kid.

    heh
Kukla Fran and Ollie reference recalling a weird science EC story....

    @Sobreiro: You absolutely rock!

@ Audley Strange; I like how you made it loose and tight. The layout is very strict but the art is causal. I really love what you did with Moore.

@ Ix; You don't think outside of the box, you reach into space and pull out a diamond. The best way to put it, for me, is that your work is magical on this.

@ DBed; In many ways, I think you and Sizer hit on what a future God would be. You've fleshed out a Philip K. Dick idea here.

@ Paul Sizer; I would argue that you not only updated the God's image but brought a whole new following to it. The advert design really does nail so many medicine angles that the stories that come to mind (Depressed teens, unsexed wives) are countless. To me, that's what these challenges are about. It's why Ken Miller's clothing lines were so fun to me. It brought a new angle like you did here to be considered. New stories. Lovely work, your students got a great example.

@ Ken Miller; Who Killed Zoom? Why it was angry Glycon! I adore the direction you've been going. It's going to make a hellva art book at this rate. Keep them coming.

@ Berserker; Again, your visions are lovely. The first concept that the priest/Moore's whole body is a puppet by the God. That, in essence, that the follower becomes a puppet/tool of the God. Reminds me of Moore's own take on how Gods work with people. Your second concept is beautiful. The lines, the idea, working in the religion -- it's perfection.

@ Oneiromancer; The details! It's very modern as well! I really like how you made the sinister look so common place with this.

@ gomezpupato; "How very cool is that?" That's the very first thing that came to mind. Glycon came to you in a very unique way and unusual and awesome all balled into one fantasy clustersmutt. The scales really set it off.

@ catafracture; Beside it completely hitting on the God's protection, that gas mask is fantastic. Now that is truly a product to pitch. Lovely work.

@ Brian Le Golem; This isn't Melinda Gebbie's work? Nothing here isn't to love down to the sock puppets which are actually socks. Brilliant dialogue. Brilliant work. It oozes - no slithers - Moore.

@ Rootfireember; I waited to see this polished from the sketch and it was well worth it. The use of color is superb. Everything is alive and nothing is left for bland. Great work.

@ Sobreiro; I'm always envious of the control you have in your works. Those lines are direct, powerful and percise.

@ Rooth; That's epic! Great layout. Love the storytelling and most certainly a remake!

Hey, this has been a good thread so far!

Congrats go out to Jess, tedcroland, Rootfireember, jackcrowder (cheers for your comments, by the way), twentythoughts (great hydra hand!), stsparky, Audley Strange, Ix (dare I ask... was any photo manip used? It's a compliment I'm asking 'cause Alan looks so realistic), Paul Sizer, Oneiromancer, gomezpupto (did you see the coloring job I did of your Sorceress of Zoom pic, by the way?), catafracture, DBed (wonderful graphic design eye candy!), lampcommander, kperkins (glad you liked the blacks: I was in a slapping on a lot of blacks mood), Brian le Golem (great trouser-snake!) and Nygaard.

The pics I think I need to highlight are the ones by Rooth (a brilliant Thor-esque take on the subject), farran (exquisite!), Sobreiro (a very, very nice pic), and Berserker. Now, Berserker, I have to say that your Conan-inspired Serpent God is just wonderful to look at. In fact, I've been going back to ogle it all day: it's a pleasure just to look at the damn thing - and you managed to make the snake-hairdo work too!

Okay, guys (btw thanks for the comments) but waaaay back in the 70's I used to drop a loooot of acid and I completely forgot about Glycon, but the name was buzzing in my head tonight so I went down to my mothers, underneath a pile of Jerry Cornelius paperbacks and torn blacklight posters I found this.

    > Weird Huh?

All the performers ("Dr. Quinch" etc.) are characters written by Alan Moore.

The thread has a very interesting flavor this week.

@Paul Sizer: When I first saw your logo, I thought I would be able to save some money on auto-insurance by switching to Glycon.

@All - Thanks for the kind words.
@Ken Miller - I'll take it as a compliment and you're not the first to ask. :) No, no photo-manip, though I did have a copy of this image open to cross-reference the proportions. Also the color dodging/burning technique I'm using on the intermediate tone layers seems to build up the realistic-seeming quality to the texture.

That, by the way is the process I am using to add color to my gray values -- a basic multiply layer, filled, and then drawn into with saturation/intensity brushes; I meant to answer on the Sorceress of Zoom thread but it got closed. So I draw the form and then I draw the light falling on the form and combine them in Photoshop. Compare:

Did anyone else come across Glycon Corporation in researching this figure? Pretty choice material.

Celebrating over 30 years in business, Glycon is an innovator in the design and manufacturing of screws, barrels, non-return valves and other meltstream solutions for injection molding, extrusion and blowmolding.

Hello! I was following this exercice on Miranda blog and he told me a few times that I should post something.
I dodged many time the invitation, but here I finally post something. I tried to move away from my comfort zone to do something more "comic book" like, but iiiiiiiich it was a disater, so I moved back to my usual flat style.

My Glycon is a snake tranny:

Evlyn M: Holy Crap, that is AMAZING! I want to read that comic right now!!! And the flatness is cool.

I couldn't really get anywhere with this one, so I just started drawing whatever came into my head and this is what happened:

@Evlyn : Hey, I'm glad you came aboard! And I don't think you have to force the "comic-style" for the sake of the thread, even if the Away from the comfort zone" is always a good thing - I've always found your style unique and impressive, and it's totally unseen here, making you more than a worthy addition to the already great roster of participants.
@Farran : Your Glycon is beautiful, as are your other illustrations!
@FrequentContributor : Another entry I dig - wonder if Mr. Moore will still be partial to this Gentle Glycon version?
