I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character.

NOTE: NO MORE PHOTO-MANIPULATION "art". I'll just delete them. People have been drenching recent threads with several pieces at a time that they've knocked out in photoshop in 2 minutes with no thought at all. I consider this to be taking the piss now.

NEW RULE: no more than TWO submissions by any one person in any one REMAKE/REMODEL.

The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

You've had it easy, lately. This is an unusually tough one, because there's nothing there.

When Ann Star was a child, she was caught outside in a fierce snow storm. She managed to survive by taking refuge in a cave until the storm was over. In the cave, she discovered and old hermit from another planet who could not stand the light of day. He taught her secrets that gave her super strength and increased resistance to damage. Now known as Super Ann, she is depicted as always running on tiptoes, ballerina style, and as having many Superman-like powers. These powers include super speed, super strength, and the ability to leap tall buildings.

What useful cues can you find in that?

Super Ann pre-dates Wonder Woman by some three years.

Pen and ink. Couldn't get the ballerina walk out of head then compounded the problem by mixing it up with 'The Red Shoes' fairy tale (but much less gory). I tried to include the hermit but it ended up too cheesy. Used photo reference for pose: 'Leap' - Luke Isley. Probably the first time I have had to make a pose less extreme. I think a remake should be a more light hearted sort of tale like "Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane" taking place in High School after she gets her abilities. As for the Hermit... well now he's in the form of a cute piggie bag and not only helps Ann with advice, but also items to help her battle evil. I chose the whole kids comic sort of thing because Super Hero comics based on older characters tend to make them more gritty and darker and I felt Ann just would fit better in a lighter situation at least during her High School phase.

@Spinnerin: That reminds me of some sort of editorial illustration. Very nice.

@EaselFish: I was actually set on using the gold & purples as complimentary colors. The greens & browns (which are really orange) are tertiaries of the yellow, which means they'll interact noticeably with the purple (forget the proper terminology for that). The blue in the hair and the red in the tattoo I'm less pleased with, but altering them might make the image a little too monotone, and the high-saturation in the blue hair helps draw attention to the face. The whole piece was produced in the midst of a nasty head cold, so I really can't fess up to how much was design and how much was "okay, sure, that could work."
