Recently I've been vaguely considering setting up a FreakAngels Wiki. We've got three and a bit books now with a lot of info about the FAs and their world, and I've noticed an increasing amount of newbies asking questions that could easily be answered if they knew exactly which obscure panel in exactly which episode back in the middle of book one (for instance) to look at.
My main questions are...
1: Is there enough general support here on the boards for such a concept? (I don't want to end up doing it all myself and/or have no one actually use the thing...)
2: Do Warren and his minions approve - or at least not actively disapprove - of such an enterprise? Because - let's face it - if Warren doesn't want it it's not going to happen.
Finally (assuming I go forwards with this) does anyone have any advice about running a publicly accessible/editable Wiki? I've run Mediawiki installations before, but only for small groups of friends where flame/edit wars are unlikely and good natured vandalism is par for the course. I'm thinking I'd set it up so that you have to sign up for an account before you can edit anything, and I'd keep up with security patches and other maintenance myself, but are there any other pitfalls I should be aware of?
(PS: It looks like this idea was raised a year ago, although the discussion petered out. Obviously November is the month for Wiki proposals.)
Fantastic! Looks like I have a project for the weekend :)
Appropriate statements and disclaimers will be large and prominent.
Until I can get things properly organised and locked down I probably won't make sign up available to the public at large. Anyone who wants to be involved (UrbanAngel - collating, proofreading and anything else you feel like contributing would be great!) please email me at freakwiki (that funky 'at' symbol) wyrmworld.com with a username and password and I'll create an account. Also let me know if you'd like to be added to an announcement list for the project (I don't expect to use it much once everything is set up).
(Edited because I was already receiving spam to the email address. Don't know what I was thinking...)
I was planning to ask Warren exactly that when he makes his glorious and terrifying new-year return (not full pages or anything, just illustrative panels here and there where appropriate). Until then I've played it safe and assumed we can't.
