1) I love how artists are using Ustream to document their work and/or stave off the boredom of long hours.
2) I have to do a 12 hour experiment on Saturday

So I have a crazy and terrible idea: I'm going to broadcast this experiment live. Starting around 10 am PST, I will be broadcasting live from a laptop on the corner of my lab bench. The goal, of course, is to save me from mind-numbing boredom and to give people a chance to see what Real Science Looks Like.

As for background information, I'm a biologist. I don't do the cool Exploring Equatorial Guinea Biology, but rather the Chained To A Lab Bench For Hours biology. However, I do use a lot of fancy gear and chemicals and have no problem explaining them to others.

So, if you're bored on Saturday, feel free to stop by and tell me what a horrible idea this is. Or ask me how it feels to commit rodenticide. I'll be here. All. For people unfamiliar with ustream, a trick I found for following along: they create custom IRC rooms, which are what you use on the page to talk, via some flash widget, but you can just connect directly to the irc server, if you just want to hang out and talk (but can't have a videostream open at work, for example). The only downside is that you can't see or hear the video.
