    I want to mention I'm loving Invincible Iron Man, more than I expected to, and more than almost any other book I'm reading. I also really loved Iron Fist, and I'm enjoying Uncanny X-Men. I'm mentioning that so I don't come off as some disgruntled comic book jerk, but I do want to ask about what happened with the Order. I've seen this only vaguely addressed, and I can't help feeling like readers of that book are owed something more than that. The Order had completely won me over, and then suddenly quality dipped, the artwork became sort of a mess, and it ended out of nowhere with a surprise reveal that it was going nowhere because it'd all been a prologue for Iron Man the whole time, which at the time I wasn't sure I'd even be picking up. Could you clear up exactly what happened there?

    How do you know if a story idea is good or bad? Can you rely on your own excitement, or do you need to always bounce your ideas off of other people first to see if they're good? Or do you never know and just hope for the best?

    Hey, Matt. Big Casanova fan... I won't gush, but, like, shit man, such a great comic.

    Okay, so with Cass going color (breaks my heart personally) and a Gula collection coming out, will we get a 100% Cyan version, or just a full color version?

    This probably answers itself since the spot colors don't sell as well as full color, there's probably not a big market for the spot color version, huh?

    And and and I wanna ask about the colorist and publisher but you said in the recent podcast that news would break soon so... I'll just put those out there for you if you want to answer or hint at them.

    Somewhat heartening to know that a reason you'll hold off on projects is because you don't think you're good enough to write them. Been putting a couple of mine off for quite some time for that reason. Was beginning to wonder if I'll ever think I'm ready to tackle them. Good to know it's not just a me thing.

    @Matt Thank you! I really appreciate your time, and the thought you put into these answers. (All of them, not just the answers to my questions!) I'm always fascinated by writer who can write while listening to music with words. Or while watching tv. I can research or outline to those things, but not actually put the words in the characters' mouths; not with other people talking. Hence the playlist on my Zune titled "Classical."

    @Kelly Sue Thank you, very much, for your response here to the question of public family life. Speaking as someone who blogs about my family, my thoughts, and my real life, I really appreciate your perspective.

    I can jump in on this one for you, killer. But introductions are called for -- this is Alejandro Arbona; I was editor on The Order toward the end there, and at different times I've assistant-edited or edited all the books you're rattling off except Uncanny X-Men. Thanks for the kind words, they're very appreciated.

    The Order was a book we launched against incredible odds; it's tough to put over a new character, much less an entire team of them. We were enormously gratified by the response it was getting from critics and fans, and the enjoyment we were all getting from working on it was icing, delicious icing -- for Fraction, artist Barry Kitson, editor Warren Simons, myself, some other people -- but from the start, with a roster of almost all new characters and a writer who was only then making his name, sales were always an uphill battle.

    The reviews stayed good and some of them even improved, but there was no fighting the bottom line, and the book was consistently in the red. So a conscious decision was made to start winding down the run, tying up the stories, and putting the characters away. By that time, Simons and Fraction had started to develop Invincible Iron Man, and bringing in Pepper Potts and Zeke Stane went almost without saying -- they were a natural fit for the story. So while the series was never meant to be a prologue, we hoped to give our Order fans a little easter egg by seeding things they could follow and see pay off in a big-ticket book.

    And most of those people are still around, so it's always fun to see Henry Hellrung put in an appearance in issue 11, or spotting Supernaut's cameo way back in issue 1.

    Iron Man #17 (it may have been #18) Tony flying through the desert in the Mark 1, listening to an Electrical Engineering book on tape was such a great bit, in an arc full of them. You made me enjoy a character who was previously on the periphery for me. Thanks for the great arcs thus far.

    CASS III- YAY! for whatever's coming. Your earlier statement about DIAMOND DOGS as Rosetta Stone, yes! I'll not ask any more questions about the rerelease of Album 1 & 2 since I assume that news will be dropping very soon.

    Hello Mr. Fraction,

    I guess the only thing I really want to ask about is Greg Land on Uncanny. Not a fan of his, but that's irrelevant, but do you write your scripts when Land's on the title differently. I.E: tailor your scripts on the Land arcs to better suit his art style? Just curious.

    Also...I think you and Land should make a gimmick comic in which Land's artistic style would be perfect for. Sort of similar to a "Tom goes to the Mayor" layouts. Where you and Land can go all out. I just image that Land's style would perfectly suit that kind of book.

    1)This touches a little on something SigridEllis asked. I noticed in the Casanova scripts your panel descriptions and directions are quite cinematic. Is this style something that has developed over time or have you always structured your scripts this way?


    umm... i'm not sure what you mean? cinematic how?

    2)Any plans for a Casanova script book? I love me some script books.


    nah. i asked image about this one time in hopes of being able to raise the book's profile and they dismissed it. oh well.

    3) Someone has already asked for movie recommendations so I'm going to assume your good taste carries over to books too. Any book recommendations?


    i haven't read anything in forever. we just moved. about to start, after having it for five fucking months, BLOOD'S A ROVER by Ellroy.

    well, i co-wrote it-- mostly dialogue stuff, and i've been done for a couple months now. I dunno if they've done any VO or not. I think so but it's not a loop I'm a part of.

    I'll totally crap my pants if robert downey jr. does any of my lines, i'll tell you what.

    Question; I remember reading somewhere that you found the move from part-time comics writer to full-time two-plus-titles-a-month comics writer an eye-opener/challenge. Having gone throught that now, what has been the biggest change in your work practices, and if you could go back, what advice would Old Biff (Matt) give Young Biff (Matt)?
