    What's your favourite Vertigo series? I don't care if it's finished or not, and saying Transmet is totally allowed (even if I'm leaning towards 100 Bullets, myself).

    How do you go about your work? Do you plan yourself a number of hours per day when you concentrate on your writing, or do you just hit the keys as long as the ideas flow or until your fingers bleed?


    As much as I can have, as much as I need. Sometimes you eat the b'ar, sometimes the b'ar eats you. Today I cranked out pages with total ease and am gonna dick around some tonight on xbox. other days it's blood from a stone. water fills the space you give it to fill.

    I find it hard work, especially as my day job involves some knakcering (do American's have that term? Tiring, then) physical labour ... it can be difficult to just get the chance to connect with my ideas and make sure they come across right on the page.


    my dayjob had me sitting in front of a computer all day long; the last thing i wanted to do at night was come home and sit in front of a computer. but, yknow. baby steps. a page a day adds up.

    So how do you do it now? How did you do it when you were starting out; are there any changes?


    i did it when i could; i loved my day job though so I didn't go chasing after every odd thing; i wrote what i wanted when i could and let it take its own pace. now i just try to write as much as i can so i can hang out with my wife and son as much as i can.



    What would be your one practical piece of advice for getting shit done?


    Also, how far ahead do you write your scripts? For, say, a six issue mini, do you just crack out all six issues, editing them over time, or complete one issue, gear it up for release, and work on the script for the next?

    write everyday. if you want the job of being a writer, do it every day. even a little: treat it like a job, not a hobby. i wish i'd done that sooner.

    it all depends. every project, every artist, is different.

    On WB recently you mentioned 'The Prisoner' as an influence and the fact you discovered it at the right age.

    Hey Matt--

    Quick question re: your schedule/daily output. It was something that was brought up way back in the big-ass Bendis board writers Q&A, if you remember that 3000 post monster--
    As I recall, Brubaker asked about it-- mentioning that he writes for 4 hours a day (b/c Vonnegut said people should only be smart 4 hours a day)-- As I recall, he said he usually goes from 11am to 3pm. Bendis writes at night, and I presume Warren keeps some sort of schedule.

    I realize that deadlines probably screw things up-- but what's an "average" day for you? How many hours do you usual keep at the desk? How many pages (again, on average) are you pushing out per hour? Or do you even track in those terms?

    Cool, again, thanks for this Q&A-- I gotta say, hands down you're one of the most generous dudes out there for this type of info.
