    1. I've been wondering for a while your thought process behind Tiger's Beautiful Daughter (from Immortal Iron Fist) being scantily clad except for carefully placed belts. Is there a lens or reference or a piece of culture or larger conversation you had in mind when designing her character? (I mean this as respectfully as possible.)


    Here's the thing; it's no longer relevant. Her first description on panel was this:

    TIGER’S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER, a voluptuous belly dancer of a fighter. Her entourage is made up of courtesans equally voluptuous. One woman, is curvaceous like the Venus of Willendorf-- TIGER MISTRESS.


    So there's a bit of me and david at play there. But the root was a warrior-courtesan class of fighter.

    but... like i said upthread, i had all of their stories. i knew where they all came from, how they got there, and everything. But there was no space for it to exist in the comics, so it never made it on to the page and out into the world. Now you've got the really wonderful IMMORTAL WEAPONS series that IS putting it all to page, so my thought process is irrelevant.

    Warren is great. He is the one who has bring back Nocenti again, as well and he got Severin and Heath and on and on...
    In fact he is the one who gave both Matt and me our first Marvel work, I think.

    Pop culture, and more specifically the cult stuff found within pop culture, have always seemed like an important influence on your work. Do you think it's important for comic writers to have strong pop culture backgrounds to keep up with the pace of the industry or do you find that it's more of a personal influence?


    nah; i think i'm just shallow. a working vocabulary is definitely important but, at the same time, i'll be fucked crooked before stomaching TWILIGHT or whatever. Very much a personal influence-- I come from the sampling generation.

    Yep, was me, Greenawaway's Pilow Book gave me a clue there.
    In fact I always have thought on them as paints, not tattoos.

    How it is like for you to write such an interesting character as Iron Man? Why him from all of others?


    i love it; i have a special affinity with the guy.

    Do you admire any old Iron Man storylines from Kurt Busiek, Len Kaminski or Bob Layton? Salvador Larroca - what it is like to work with him?


    oh yeah, of course! And salva's great. he's a machine. he's a beast. he's a one-man cinema.

    Will "Stark: Disassembled" storyline interract with the Siege event? Will there be any issues in Invincible Iron Man, that will be just issues and not a new arc.


    it's a bit like how FIVE NIGHTMARES worked with SECRET INVASION. It's not a back and forth, but one very much sets up the other and it's all... well, more than that would be giving it away.

    i did the one one-shot issue; it was fun. i expect i'll do more.

    Very cool, but she's not a kid, words uneaten. I will continue to call RESCUE, The Iron Pepper, Iron Potts, or Pepper Iron Nightingdove Lapinski.

    Always thought of "The Pillow Book" as the best comic book movie in its use of simultaneous panels playing out across time.

    It is isn't it. And I love the structure of the story, and actually how fast it is.
    I think that was one of the few stories where you can actually taste the atmosphere in the air.
    (A perverse part of me would love to see this on the big screen, but I can't think of anyone who would do it justice)

    That one line you wanted to write was probably the most entertaining single line in a Marvel comic in a while. It was the punchline to so many months of 'serious shit' and general downward spiral that I chuckle every time I think about it.
