    Hello to you all

    So my question to Matt (and even Warren): obviously, you take continuity into account (World's Most Wanted just somehow spring to my mind) but when does it start to become a nuisance more than a help? How do you tackle a bit of a character's history you JUST CAN'T STAND or just cannot understand as a writer ? (

    Now my question to the David and Fabio : We hear a lot about the US/UK artists than had influenced you but who were you reading as kids in your countries?

    And finally, David, I read you lived in Valladolid (maybe you still do). I'm studying there since a couple of month and I CAN'T FIND A COMIC SHOP written in Spanish (except "Yo Vampiro" by Trillo/Risso that was awesome). I include south american comic books. I must say I was surprised to see it's easier to find a book with Breccia (father or son), Gimeñez or any hispanic writter/artist translated in french! I mean, how am i suppose to learn Spanish ? :D

    Wow, I write far too much. But wether you can/will answer or not, thanks a lot this kind of interview is really nice of you all to do and more instructive than the classic "what will happen next?" from mainstream mag/website.

    is it easier to find reference for a character that exists (or his "lair/batcave/whatever") or does it bother you to draw this car THIS way but you do it to respect the precedent artist's work ?

    Well also US and Uk artist, heh.. I read a lot of Marvel and DC when I was a kid. I supposed I started reading Disney's comics, they were at home when I was born, and of course lot of humor spanish artist like Ibañez, Jan, Escobar... And also I read magazines and albums with lot of European stuff, like Breccia, Bilal, Moebius,Oestherheld, Muñoz & Sampayo, Crepax, Hugo Pratt...
    Well, I have read, and keep on reading tons of comics.

    I do not get you there, dude. There are round four comics shops in Valladolid, I think, and definitively you can find a lot of spanish stuff on them. For sure you will have classic stuff like Mort Cinder, Alack Sinner, Paracuellos, El Eternauta,... and a lot of new great spanish artist like David Rubín, Paco roca...

    2. I just read an interview with Terry Gilliam where he said it was a nightmare for him to pitch movies like his to studios because they're so off the wall...which begs the question, how the hell did you pitch Cassanova?

    3. I remember Joe Quesada saying, before the Iron Man movie came out, that there were things from the film that would be incorporated into the comic book character because of how well they worked - what elements from the film did he mean? Or was that abandoned when you came on? I know you've said you weren't greatly informed by the movie.

    It's really cool that you are taking the time to answer all of these questions. thank you. I really need to read Casanova, since everyone is pretty much in love with it. On to my question:

    How does it make you feel when you write the word "fractious" into a story? I thought it was particularly clever the first time I read it.

    I read everything I could get my hands on as a child. From MAD magazine to Super Heroes, Disney comics... There were these great alternative brazilian authors in the 80s who, even today, are still the most known brazilian artists in the country, named Angeli and Laerte. Also a guy named Luis Gê, from whom I learned a lot about the formal aspects of comics, and this crazy guy named Henfil.

    Also, a lot of european comics, like books from Manara, Moebius, Liberatore, Crepax, Bilal.

    Akira was a huge influence when it first came out in Brazil.

    I was influenced by everything, everyone...

    I read a lot of books, saw a lot of movies, went to fine art school at college and studied art history. Went to a lot of rock bars, listened to a lot of good and crappy music. Met a lot of people.

    Worked a lot as an illustrator for magazines, newspapers, advertising and whatever else came my way.

    And I never stopped doing comics while doing all those things.

    I'm also HUGELY influenced by my brother.

    Yeah, totally. Luxuria Lymphatica. It's a jumping spider, but I guess it's been renamed now as Luxuria is used in Mollusca already. Anyway...

    v3 will be as different from 2 as 2 was from 1. "regular format" isn't... like, with CASANOVA, that's a fucking misnomer if there ever was.


    yeah, I guess that's what I figured. So no real dramatic shift in how you approach writing it for more than 16 pages? I guess that's part of what I'm asking, is how it's different to write, in any sence that applies for you- you said 16 pages was a hard format to write for, so... I dunno, I'm so fucking tired right now I can't make the right words come out.

    @ Matt Fraction- (Not comic related)- What do you think of Lady Gaga's presentation of her Diva alter ego. I am perfectly aware of the fact Lady Gaga dresses up ridiculously in order to convey a style and image. I also want to know if you think that kind of celebrity image is making a come back.

    I would very much like to think so because Hollywood and celebrities tend to just go with the Reality show vibe, no real attraction to the star or talent. I know that my love for Madonna and Cher stems from their theatric performances and not their actual person. I couldn't care less what they do with their lives.
