Fabio, thanks for the great answer. And thanks to all the answers from the pros which seem to all boil down to: do the work.

Kelly Sue, sorry to hear, hope HL's feeling better soon. Ear infections suck (moreso for little ears).

    @ Matt & Kelly Sue

Wishing HL a speedy recovery! Always saddens me to see the little one's taken down with something.

    @ Kelly Sue

Don't feel embarrassed about your acting / improv / comedy days.
During secondary school I used to dress up as our local town mascot to earn a bit of spending cash. It was worth the humiliation to fund my snowboarding habit.
To take part in the sharing of your own embarrassment, I'll dig up a photo to post up later ;)

Here's wishing HL a speedy recovery as well.

I take the opportunity to mention that while I don't have anything to ask myself (still got to catch up with a lot of Matt's work, been lacking the free time (and, temporarily, money) for it), this thread is being very interesting. Matt and Kelly are absolute sweethearts. Thanks for taking the time.

Thanks for responding, man. And hope your kid feels better.

I had a plan-- that i'll do somewhere, someday-- for issue three where it would've had three different endings, depending on what random copy you bought and we'd never announce it. but everybody would remember the ending differently because there were three different ones...

This would've been/will be one of those things that just make me go all heart-eyed for comics.

P.S. I saw you mentioned GOGO MONSTER; I dunno if you've checked out HANAOTOKO by Matsumoto, but it is so, so good, and being about fatherhood and baseball, probably up your alley.

Bowie and Prince double-teamed Madonna and thus was born...GAGA

GAGA...bringing sexy, funky pop back. To The Future.

The soundtrack to the lost Kubrick/Lynch anime'...GAGA

Sorry, it's rare to find another thirty-something heterosexual white male who respects the mad genius of Lady G. Thanks for doing what you do. It's great to see that things have gone so well for you and the fam since your last residency here.

Question Time: I know its gonna be a revolving door of Ba and Moon, but have you guys toyed with the possibllity of a guest artist somewhere? Y'know, like Paul Pope?

ha-- while i'd love to work with pope on something, he surely doesn't need to and, as a rabid pope fan, i'd be angry with myself for keeping him away from other projects. man i need a shrink.

we did play with the notion when we were looking at our relaunch but ended up not doing it mostly because it was a logistical nightmare and we are very lazy. also the way we're going to do it was better for the relaunch anyway--

fuck it, here's some news. the reprints will run V1+a new story that Fábio will draw, allowing us all to see the V1 stuff through his eyes and brush; then 2&3 in a single issue, 4 & 5, and 6 & 7. Then the V2 reprints will go 8&9, 10 & 11, 12 & 13, and 14 + a new story that Gabriel will do, so we see his take on V2 stuff. Then V3 starts.

if you've got any thoughts on merch I'd love to hear 'em.

    Merch is cool.

I have two questions for the awesome señor Aja.

First off, I'd just like to reiterate that I find your work completely amazing & often find myself marvelling at it way more than is probably healthy. Oh well.

IDIOT QUESTION EDITED OUT BY WARREN. FAIRLY SURE AJA CAN'T TELL MARVEL WHAT TO PRINT OR MAKE MOVIES OUT OF.

Thirdly, can you tell us anything about what what we can look forward to seeing from you? I saw Matt mentioned an Iron Man annual...
  6.  (7178.329)
saw in various interviews, you said that you thought tony had to "pay" for his mistakes. so whats your personal opinion on that? do you think tony fucked up in civil war?

see, that's interesting to me-- i was always speaking in a global, whole-life-of-sins sort of way, but it almost always got taken to mean I was talking about Civil War.

Part of the reason WMW was as vast and far reaching as it was is that we needed room to trace tony's whole life, and to touch on his many difficult and dubious decisions, right back to landmines in afghanistan.

i think everybody fucked up during Civil War.

    Whoa! That plus colour?!

You've switched me from 'probably not' to 'definitely'.

Hey there mr. Fraction. I just wanted to thank you for all the job you've done on the Invincible Iron Man. I really like it as an old school fan. You and Salvador Larroca are doing great. We have a comics community in Moscow - it's called SPIDERMEDIA and we really admire everything you've done with Iron Man as a character.

<strong>I have a question:</strong> Are you planning on visiting Moscow someday? Maybe on IM2 Premiere in April?

    Thank you very much sir.
    Best wishes,

@Tracerfire - Thanks for the additional venue shoutouts.
@ Kellysue - Man, parenthood is a minefield. Earaches are a bear and I hope HL feels better soon.
@Nickellis - Right, it's fun to share work and self-promote but I need to stave off the internet and do the work...

Ah yes, of course. I apologize.

Instead, let me just say that I would very much like a poster or a print of anything Mr. Aja has drawn, and that I'm fairly sure I'm not the only one. There is simply not enough Aja in the world.

Matt -- Who would win in a fight for Emperor of Earth: Lady Gaga or President Steve Elvis of the Americas?
  9.  (7178.335)
Hi Matt, I was wondering if you could talk about interviewing Denny O'Neil for The Comics Journal #300, what that was like and what you might have learned or enjoyed while doing it. I'm particularly interested in how doing this interview when you yourself are several years into your career might have been different in terms of questions and areas of interest than if you'd done it when you were just starting out.
  10.  (7178.336)
    Write-y question time:

Matt, who's the hardest character's "voice" you've ever had to write? Are there characters you just can't "crack"?

Are you ever really satisfied with your dialogue?
And on the reverse end (just to keep in positive karma), do you have a scene you've written that you're really proud of? (Like, one of those: Shit, did I really write that?!)

I ask b/c I'm writing a thing now (4 issues, small to midsized publisher/don't know if I'm allowed to talk about it yet)-- the "voices" are ok-- and my editor seems to be cool with the script as-is, but I can't help but feel it can be punched up. (mind you, might be "sore tooth syndrome"-- could be that I just need to stop tinkering and let it go)

Anyhow, any advice on dialogue, minus "go read Mamet screenplays?"
  11.  (7178.337)
would you consider alternative printing models for your creator-owned work to reach an audience?

there is absolutely merit in the idea, and if i thought i had the audience, the good will, the time to do it, and believed there was a POD solution that could create a worthwhile product, i'd explore it. but i don't, i don't, I don't, and i haven't done the research.

ebooks of CASANOVA have been available for free every evening the day of a new issue's release; until the hardware solution arrives and digital comics become something, ebooks aren't viable for comics-- they're free right now, everything you've ever wanted-- and POD needs more attention than I have to give it. fuck, i tried handling tshirts and just fucking drown in it, yknow?

that said? I would love to find things LIKE this but... but I dunno what that is yet.

Sorry you had to miss out on the Toronto Expo. I was looking forward to giving you something I think you'll appreciate. Next year, hopefully, if you can make it and my continents realign.

me too. i love that show. love love love it.
  13.  (7178.339)

Cool, you know then I will turn it into a double splash single panel or maybe into a twenty four panel one, and you will have to rewrite all dialogues on deadline day!

and that is why i love you.
  14.  (7178.340)
But on the flipside, was there anyone you met once you broke into the industry that you were star-struck when you met them? Anyone that you thought 'oh my god, i'm talking to my hero, Johnny Comicswriter/artist!'.

oh, no doubt. i literally avoided speaking to the hernandez brothers for years-- YEARS-- because... i thought i'd just turn into a teenage girl at a beatles concert. dharbin tricked/forced me to meet jaime at heroescon a few years back but until, literally, two weeks ago, even at times when we were three feet away from each other, i couldn't say hello to gilbert.

chaykin was a big one, but i... like, he's, i think, a bit like harlan ellison in that if you give as good as you get-- in a right and gentlemanly way, don't be a douche, don't be a dick, and be FUNNY way above all else... you're in. and i had my script in to him before we spoke, so he saw right off what i was doing, that i was doing it for him very specifically, that i got his work and knew how to talk to him... so we had that right off, too; a professional thing came first. anyway i decided that i would be the guy that spoke to chaykin the way he speaks to others and I kind of think he gets a kick out of it. Anyway, as such, we get along famously. i adore the man.

if you said of anyone else "He taught me the magic of blowjobs, big asses, and lingerie" people would think you were talking about the man that molested you but with howard... it just means i'm a REAL BIG FAN.

Also was there anyone you gushed about online that you met, that you felt embarassed about the gushing like 'shit i hope he didn't read that thing about me wanting to bear his babies'?

    those fellas hernandez.

And finally, any advice for someone planning to break into the industry from somewhere not one of the 'powerbases' of the industry? I'm Irish, and an artist (in need of much improvement, but i'm trying), and while there are plenty of good writers here, there's not really anywhere in this country where we can physically go and present our work. I guess what i'm asking is what are the best online 'forums' for displaying work in your opinion?
