    Has anyone seen this or heard more about this, A friend in passing mentioned it to me and I had to research it's existance, quite interested to see it.

    Can't begin to tell you everything wrong with that Wikipedia entry.

    That's an adorable euphemism. I'll have to remember that one the next time I hear a news story about rape. Like <a href="http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/story.html?id=0f2ee9bc-e415-4315-b362-9dd9e8399399&k=16116">this girl, who became an 'object of violence' at her school</a>, and in a hilarious twist, is afraid to leave her mother's side. Or <a href="http://cbs2.com/local/Desert.Hot.Springs.2.640778.html">this girl, who became an 'object of violence' when she was targeted by a family member</a>, a family member who also happens to be a cop and a 'resource' officer at schools in his community (that's irony, right there).

    Rape is still one of those words that isn't funny to anyone. No, really. Don't roll your eyes. Look at 'child molestation', for instance. Couldn't say that for the longest time. Then the church scandal broke, all hell broke loose, and Amber Alerts (Code Adams, what have you) rose in prominence as alerts to- <em>what?</em> <em>you guessed it</em>- the possibility of kidnapping and molestation and murder. A wandering lost or missing kid stopped being about other people's parenting, or the possibility of a child being terrorised for a few hours. Child molestation became a real possibility: could happen to anyone's child or be in anyone's past. It stopped being euphemisms like 'bad touch' and 'funny uncle'. Eventually, despite all remarks about taste or appropriateness, child molestation moved into the public vernacular as a dark joke, an aside, something you could say in a tone above a whisper. Michael Jackson jokes, priest jokes, you name it. It's still a vile, death penalty worthy violation, but it's no longer about the victim or the family. South Park makes light of it on a regular basis, and I think that's the sort of shit that breaks down the politically correct euphemisms and brings out the real issues.

    In '<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teeth_film">The Lovely Bones</a>' for instance, child rape was used as a plot device, and it was acceptable. The scene is tragic, not the least bit funny, and of course, discussed with as much gravity and political correctness as a person could muster. When the warnings and adult content ratings for '<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teeth_film">Teeth</a>' come out, it's likely they're going to involve warnings about 'sexual violence'. In reference to other plot points, that might be true. But certainly, they'll mean to include the rape scene, and that's simply inaccurate. Rape isn't a sexual act. Rough sex is a sexual act. It's an important distinction. Unfortunately, it's not a distinction that people want to make on a subject that's considered a four-letter word.

    I feel so much better now. I think I'll go see a noir horror comedy about it. (<em>Now</em> you can roll your eyes.)

    I read about this in Playboy, sounds funny.

    Rather than explain how often I use the term rape in a joking matter (usually in reference to one of my male friends, or perhaps their respective fathers, becoming an "object of violence" bent toward my will, generally discussed during a camping trip), all I can say is w00t! Desert Hot Springs is my home town. Still keepin' it real out there I see.
