Listening to loopy stuff right now, such as

    Zan Lyons:

who I saw within the atmospheric interior of Trinity Church, Leeds on Saturday night, doing cool things with a violin looped through a mixing desk and macbook, thereby synching the beats to short films and images.

He was preceded by Umber, two guys with looped guitars who tended towards the gentle if not ambient and

who were a wee bit hip-hoppity for my liking but gave me the joyous sight of four guys, face backlit only by their macbook screens, bobbing away at the church altar ...!

Good stuff and Lyons 'Desolate' is definitely on my list of upcoming cd purchases (although unfortunately its only available through

I'm listening to a box set of classic Randy Newman stuff.

    Yeah, I'm old, sue me.

Aside from the music played at the Sushi Bar where I now work ( yay money! ) I have been digging voraciously into the Time Has Told Me blog which puts rare and out of print folk vinyl up for download. Any steampunkers looking for a little more steam in their punk atmosphere would do well to check it out, plenty of old victorian folk songs about working in factories, etc.

What I've been digging on right now:
    Barde - Barde
Whirling Pope Joan - Spin (this record is great except for the two or three exceptionally cheezy new age synth tracks in the middle of the album)
Cabestan - Chants de Marins Traditionnels
    V/A - Folk Pirate
aaaand currently awaiting the arrival of:
Coleman County Traditional Society - Music of Coleman County

Listening to a really nice little indie electro pop album called "Riemerling" by Me Succeeds. Don't know anything about them yet; a friend just sent me this link to download: ME SUCCEEDS
The password for the .rar file is: rockschuppen

Kind of sounds like a more playful, lo-fi version of Postal Service, but with English as a second language. I like it muchly right now. Well worth the download.
Any one heard of these guys before?

Them Crooked Vultures just released their s/t.

It sounds like Josh Homme on vocal and guitar, John Paul Jones on keys and bass and Dave Grohl on drums, because, well... it is.
