I think I'll watch this one grow, see where everyone goes, and see if I can't use this coming Friday away from work to do something utterly sideways to it all.
Thanks for the compliments all. As to how I did it so fast, well... you gotta be fast and good to meet deadlines, so I learned to speed paint over the last couple of years. It doesn't beat good labored detail work, but for getting your concept across using a minimum amount of time, it works great. That piece in particular took about an hour or so.
A bigger version here; getting out of internet and scanner access in the next days will prevent me from inking this one before the deadline. Creative commons applies. Favorites so far are Kmcleod's and Struthersneil's.
So many talents and I'm quite ashamed to not being able to take more time to do something better.
My Favorites are : - Adam Rosenlund -> Very nice feeling ! (is it allowed to say something like that in english for a drawing ?) - jamesmith3 & struthersneil-> I can feel a mood here ! - lordmitz -> Very good design !
Anyway here is my contribution to this Remake/Remodel :
Yep, I've read about the photographies limitation, but I think that a backlayer is not breaking that law. If yes, just tell me and I'll edit the picture without that layer.
Let's see here: Earth universities destroyed by ancient mad War God, scientist takes two children to moon, boy becomes possessed by War God, kills scientist, girl forced to kill boy, now all alone on Moon base except for robot... Sorry, feeling a little grumpy this week, reflected in my take on this concept. Here's my coffee house sketch-up for the final. There's parts of this I like better than the final:
@Paul Sizer: Yeah, the "oh jeez this sucks" version is the one I see as the most interesting for a modern Mysta story. The expression in the final piece is way improved over the sketch. The sketch Mysta just looks blank, like she could kill more people. The finished Mysta looks like a lost kid. Damn good.
@Adam Rosenlund: Jesus H Chriminy, you did the first image in an HOUR? I could see that as a really good comic cover. And here I spent TWO hours just getting my black-and-white thing done. Grump. :) The second version is good as well. I can't help but picture the Bron robo-arm as a hilariously French-accented sidekick, though. "Mais non, mon ami! Ze Marrs acoleetez arre burroweeng unzerground ze Safetee Councail!"
@TwentyThoughts: Thanks for the nice words. I like the body English of my first sketch a little bit more, but yeah, the sketch face looks vacant (which is kind of scarier, actually). I also figured for the costuming that the scientist would dress the kids up to make it fun for them; "Hey kids, we're going to the moon while the Earth goes to Hell. Here's your moon uniform!" Splattered with blood, the "fun" aspect kind of falls away.
Adam, James, and Niel... WOW. Stunning. There's about 7 other entries that are amazing as well, but those 3 really caught my attention for whatever reason. Great work everyone! I wish I could write comics for some, if not all, of you.
Wow, there is some talent running around in here! Great stuff this week--favorites so far are by lordmitz, DisContent, jamesmith3, struthersneil, Amalgamated Biscuit and Adam Roseland's second one.
@jackcrowder Hah, glad to be of service! Should hope fellow meeting attendees were spared the sight of Space Myra...
My attention was caught by:
She saw through the ruse, however, and killed Nors in order to free him
Of the moon, indeed. It takes a lunatic to act upon such dangerous logic...
Plenty of errors in that picture, but wasted far too much time on it as it stands, so it'll do. Submissions so far have been excellent, as always. Only mild jealousy taints my admiration, of course. Ahem.
Some time off paid off. Lots of amazing entries this time around!
@ DisContent: I like your color scheme @ jackcrowder: Nice over the shoulder poses and look @ jamesmith3: Amazing illustration... just amazing @ struthersneil: Love the lines and the colors @ Adam Rosenlund: Again, great 1st take and awesome 2nd! I love the "Bron Arm" @ Miranda: Wow... @ Paul Sizer: Somber, yet creepy... I love the bloody hand prints on the window, nice detail
And now for my second attempt... I was interested in the possession Nors by Mars and Mysta having to put him down after he kills their father...
