    Found some extra time for another quick take, this time trying something I don't attempt often enough: sketching with a pencil then digitally inking it. I usually draw the whole piece with a mouse, from preliminary sketch to finished art.

    Due to lack of a scanner, here's the photographed pencils. If anyone wants a go at inking this for some unfathomable reason, feel free, since my inks -- as you'll see shortly -- are terrible:



    To highlight the pencils better, I used the threshold effect:



    And the digitally inked piece, left with a gray background because I liked it better this way -- I still didn't like this final piece, though. Too clean, too simple, but I just kind of got stuck there -- and it's a quickie, as I said.

    @Andre Navarro - I have no idea how you do what you do using just a mouse. I could never even attempt anything more that a mutated squiggle with a mouse. It doesn't help that I'm left handed, but use the mouse with my right. Anyway, lovely work!

    In case I don't get back in time with colours, here's my line art. Creative Commons applies, so if anyone wants to have a shot, it's welcomed. I thought her deceased pseudo-family deserved some air time, so they're on the walls, watching over her.

    Thanks to everyone for their kind comments. Lots of excellent work all round this week, but jamesmith3, struthersneil and as always Miranda seemed to hog most of my attention.

    The vague notion of a poster for a lost Fritz Lang movie hadn’t fully materialised when I dashed off my first attempt. I’m not entirely sure that adding Oscar Schlemmer ballet costumes has got me any closer to what I had in mind, but here’s another stab........ with apologies for the Babelfish German.




    Nietzschean supergods and Randian heroes are all helpless against a DaDa Luna-chick!

    Thanks. I've been using a mouse for so long I came up with techniques to make up for its chronic clunkiness. However, I'll buy material to ink my next drawings by hand, see if I can get a good photo of them and use them on the art threads in Whitechapel.

    In my mind I was aiming for a shitty 90's Image Comics-looking cover-type-thing, but then I realized that I can't really draw like Rob Liefeld, so I started over and came up with the above, which I'm not thrilled with. I wanted to have the logo "Ares and the Heiress" on there (or "Mars and the Moonie!"), but since I scrapped the cover concept, the text got lost, too. Oh well...

    Andrew, on the contrary, whatever you did to hit this style, Bravo! Nice spin on your own "look". I too had a million ideas in my head for mine, and eventually just kind of brought it to a conclusion, not the one originally in my brainpan. I dig all the exaggerated muscle stuff, because where someone like Liefeld THOUGHT they were getting it right, I KNOW you know correct, and are doing it intentionally. I also dig the hatchy high-light coloring on the characters, very textural.

    Sizer, kevlar, and Ken: Thanks. To Paul: When I was drawing Ares' torso, I kept thinking, "Where should I add more random muscles?" And the fact that both of his arms just drape off into nothing was a bonus for me, as well. My original imagined design would have had them all in those shapeless "slipper" feet dissappearing behind a strategically placed hill, standing around aiming guns.

    Berserker: I just noticed the two headstones off to the side. Nice touch.
