    I recently got a Lumix G10 (this week) and it's my first big camera, bigger than my previous cameras (phone cameras).
    @microclimate has been good enough to help me with the buying and decision process and now I've started to actually take shots with it, so any help on how things are looking is more than welcome.
    I'm not going to post single photos because I'm taking quite a number at the moment, but here's the flickr set I'm using at the moment.

    @oldhat I really dig that. It makes me miss the darkroom.

    Here's a bunch from my newest steampunk set. And really the more I look at this set as a whole, the more I realize just how much of an impact illustrators like Tim Bradstreet and Jae Lee made on me.

    Ok, I apologise if this is redundant, or has been discussed elsewhere.... but I'm desperately trying to collate together both an art site and a commerical site, and I'm befuddled as to HOW to group my work. This is more an issue for the artistic work, since I've far MORE of that, which stretches over much more time. The art stuff is less about selling myself, and more about representing it well, so..... Do i group things by subject matter? Mood? Predominant color? Location? Camera? Time period, with sub genres? I don't generally have sets from photoshoots, but rather, one image chosen from a series. I've been looking at other photographer's sites, and I can't .... seem to... figure it out.

    I'm not asking for you lovely people to tell me exactly WHAT to do, rather, if you could advise me on how to apporach the problem so I could figure it out? Or maybe how you decided yourselves on how to set up your work for being viewed?


    @oldhat - see, it's people like you that always make me feel like a photographer-poser, having no idea what to do in a darkroom. You impress me.

    @lexmachina - Gosh, those are lovely. And I totally see the Lee / Bradstreet pose influence!

    @ COOP - I do love the angles and lines of the Sarah Trotsky photos. Lovely. The light from above is perfect.

    I'm pretty sure that's what they are. There's a huge colony of them in the botanic gardens in Sydney. These were the best two shots out of about twenty I took before my boyfriend almost bodily dragged me away :P

    Rachael, HA! I still know next to nothing in darkroom stuff. This is just my third workshop in there. Trust me, you are NOT a poser!

    Also in regards to set organization, I'm having sort of the same problems. It seems that if I separated every set, I'd have one or two photos in each section. How I'm doing it is I make the chosen sets very very general. So most portraits or shots where one or two people are the focus of the shot, I label them under "People". All the shots where the surroundings have more focus than the people in the shot, it's put in "Out and About" and all my individually picked favorite shots from each of those sets gets dumped in to a giant "portfolio" set. It's not the best method, but it makes it easier to look for some things.

    @ oldhat - yeah, that's been my method thus far for the most part. If the focus of the photograph is a person, it goes in "people", if it's without a human, it's one of my locations. But what if it's a portrait of a stray cat? Is that a "people"? Or it's not a landscape, but a close up of an urban environment (like a corner of a barbed wire fence)? Is that Is that a "thing" or a "place"? Or if it's an urban landscape type shot, but it's got a person in it? ARGH! And should I lump together he photographs I took with my wee crappy Sony Cybershot from 2001-2007, or ditch them, and with it the bulk of my NYC photography? Goddamn, this is frustrating.

    @Oldhat and Rachael, I would never be able to tell that you guys didn't have darkroom experience. That said, I think that darkrooms do give you a lovely sense of physicality in what is turning into a very digital/ephemeral field.

    I also just love the smell of photo chemicals and the process of being in darkrooms. And my film photos are totally better than my digital photos. Mmmmmmm, toxins!

    Edit: in an increasingly digital field, one is by no means a poser for not having darkroom experience. Plus, darkrooms are fucking expensive.
