Boron Nitride is the second-hardest substance known after diamond and is used extensively as a ceramic.
It also absorbs neutrons making it attractive as a radiation shield fro spacecraft.
Now scientists have found a way to produce relatively cheap bulk quantities of Boron Nitride nanotubes which can used to make superstrong fibres.
