@rachael, trust me.. Art has not reached the relaxing stage for me yet. Partially because I'm not very good/haven't gotten comfortable/haven't done enough. I invent new ways to swear when I am on a deadline and nothing is working as planned. That said I may chime in, but most of the time it's like a direct connection to someone with advanced tourettes.
This is why I think we might do well to have this on another night, really.
If this will really interfere with the traditional Open Mic so many people love, then yes, perhaps we could settle on a different day. But really: writing an organized, thoughtful post about your life and your future projects is very different from talking shit on Skype, and Saturday seems like a good night to do both with no problems.
My thoughts may be worth less then $0.02 but all the same a different night would be good - more coverage that way, maybe. People who are out and about on Saturday night may miss the long form, organized writing, but can make disjointed, shoot-from-the-hip skype additions to a drunken Internet party on a Tuesday night. And those of us (ok, me) who like to save up for the long essay to write to Scary Uncle Warren won't be distracted by the rollicking IRC insanity.
@hank... um, yeah. This "relaxing stage of art is" not something I know about. Also, regardless of why you'd choose to log in to a conversation while doing something or why that something that makes you utter profanity, the notion that you'd choose to just connect to an audio chat room and stay silent and just listen.....is still creepy.
