    Updates and such.

    Working on layout now. Still probably going to be another day or two until I'm completely done and think it's acceptable. Going to have someone double check my work and see if they can offer better suggestions. So first issue should be ready to order right before the end of the month.

    The next issue! Very much seeking content for issue number 2. Anyone interested speak up, or just send me an email at makesomethingmag@gmail.com I am hoping for submissions to not be as late, so I won't be telling folks issue 2 is full. Whatever doesn't go into the second one will go right into the third and people will be notified as such.

    Deadline for issue #2 is March 31st 11:59 PM.

    And the first issue is now available for PURCHASE!!!!!

    Was very shocked that the cheapest shipping still ended up arriving to my door in 4 days and I ordered on a Sunday! It's quite pretty, and there were only three mistakes that I noticed in the proof which made me very damn happy. Hopefully any remaining are very minor *crosses fingers*

    Congrats Allen and all the contributors on the first issue! This thread made me assemble my own thing through magcloud (to be released later this month) so kudos to you all. I will be eagerly awaiting its arrival at my doorstep.

    @Allen
    While I was assembling my thing I learned few formatting tricks that I feel could benefit your design , if you are interested and nobody thinks an amateur critique on a labor of love is in poor taste, maybe I could give some pointers or help with layouts for the next issue?
    No PM system here so email me at munin.03 at hotmail if interested.

    So I just ordered my copy of Issue 1 along with Strange Light. I'm looking around for some other MagCloud mags I might buy...anyone have any recommendations?

    Also, FYI there's a spring sale going on at MagCloud. All "full priced" magazines are 25% off until March 21st.

    Can't wait to get it!

    @Allen

    Approximately how many words can a short story be for 4 pages in the mag? I know the font/mag size/margins can vary quite a bit so I thought I'd ask.

    My copy of issue 1, according to FedEx, departed a facility in Portland, OR on March 6th and hasn't been received anywhere since. I know these updates usually all flood in at once but it seems like it could've gotten here a little sooner. Supposed to be here by March 12th. We'll see.

    I ordered mine about two weeks ago and havent gotten it yet. MagCloud forgot to include my space number so when it got here it couldnt be delivered and was returned. Saw it was returned via the fedex tracking, sent MagCloud a support ticket and within the hour got a response (And was told it was mis-addressed). They said they were gonna overnight it to me and I should have it tomorrow.

    Can't wait :3

    Got mine today, very awesome stuff.

    sgrsickness, I do have to say your comic was the highlight. Was really touching.

    And great job everyone! Thanks to Allen for this; I know I've nothing to contribute to the making of it, but I do love watching things like this come together. (Insert sappy "I love Whitechapel" speech)

    Many, many appreciative <3s for brittanica :3

    It was on my porch when I got home today!
    And guess what? It looks to be pretty awesome so far. The piece on Japan is funny ><

    @sgrsickness

    Thanks for the compliment on the Japan article. I'm hoping to move there and write similar stuff regularly. Moving to Japan is complicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaated...

    Anyway. Word to the wise: don't get the cheapest shipping on MagCloud. The magazines (I also ordered Strange Light) came in a thin ass FedEx envelope with no cardboard inside...both magazines were creased and wrinkled to a ridiculous degree.

    Thankfully, though, I emailed their customer support and they're going to send me new copies with upgraded shipping to prevent any other issues. Good show.

    Great work on the magazine though. If I could offer one bit of constructive criticism though, what's up with the fonts in the magazine? I expected serif fonts considering it's a printed work. I'm not a typographer or anything but I've always been under the impression that serif fonts were for print and sans serif fonts were for online. The font size was also pretty large, at certain points I felt like I was reading a large print book.

    @tcatsninfan I do not know typography or fonts really, though I shall now go forth and look into that I just started learning InDesign about two months before I did layouts for this issue, tried to get someone more experienced or smarter then me to do it and that fell through with various people so I just tried it myself, that is one of a dozen or so mistakes I can see now with just an extra month with the program, which doesn't even count the other dozen or so mistakes I fixed after getting the proof, and again when I had to fix things to get a name I screwed up right. One of those mistakes was the font size, which I had screwed up in an earlier version just to get some page length ideas, and sent the wrong PDF to MagCloud, it should be fixed for all new orders, I sadly can't check this at the moment as InDesign is acting stupid.
