So things got a little bit delayed with the second issue, first work dramas, then prepping for the Fall semester, and now finals. So with everything else the magazine fell by the way side.
But I didn't mean to post and just bitch about things being busy. I am still 6 pages of content away from a full magazine, so I could use a little bit of help on that front. I especially am looking for a back cover of some sorts.
In case you're curious what will be in the next issue, I currently I have the following in hand (some of the text needs to get a quick proofread) two short stories, a travel log that I still need to go through the photos of to get down to around 4 pages, and two spreads of short fiction which includes the awesome twitfic that Texture gathered through Weaponizer, a comic, and then the cover I posted a month ago.
I have been laying the issue out as I have gotten things to get a general idea of space, and so not to have to cram everything in at the last minute, so the next issue should hopefully be out in the next two or three weeks one way or another. I figure if I can't get to 28 pages I will just cut off to the nearest page count that is divisible by 4 and go from there.
Update: just sent off for the proof for the second issue, so it should be up and for sale by the end of the week as long as I didn't screw anything major up. I'm very happy with how it came out, and just have a few minor changes to make (proof reading everything again etc). I will also be reworking the first issue to improve all the errors and problems that were done due to me still not knowing what the fuck I was really doing at the time. I'm planning on rereleasing the first issue as a free downloadable PDF after it's all fixed as well as uploading it to Magcloud for anyone who wants a hard copy.
Beyond that, eyes are now set on #3 and making it a faster process, I do have enough content for a few pages, but definitely need more. A big reason this issue was held up was a lack of material to use, so I have been working on spreading the word and asking anyone I know to do so as well, any help on that front would be very helpful. More cool creative work is always helpful.
The second issue is now finished and is available through the Magcloud website right here. I think the whole thing looks much better than the first issue, and the improvements I made on my end also allowed for more actual content to be included. Hopefully everyone enjoys and thanks a lot to everyone who helped out.
Tomorrow begins my pursuit for getting everything together for a third issue.
Edited to add: MagCloud is also running a 25% off sale throughout the month of June if you use the code DADGRAD.
sat down and just flipped through the preview on the magcloud site, looks very very nice . cant wait to get my copy >8D The Weaponizer layout looks particularly rad.
I've just ordered both issues, looking forward to it!
Just 6 days later they've both dropped through my door, these are my first magcloud purchases, but they certainly wont be my last! Really nice production quality, nice paper, etc.
Also great content, they won't be my last issues of Make Something either.
Hey Allen, great job mate, the magazine looks absolutely killer. Really impressed with the quality of submissions, the design and the print quality. Thanks very much for letting me be involved.
i will have to order an issue. I would love to submit a real short story.. but then again who wouldn't.. i've got ideas hitting my brain about getting funding.. will read thread properly.
Glad everyone has liked the second issue, I was actually flipping through it earlier and very damn happy with it as well. I really haven't put much time, thought, or effort into the third issue yet, so I will start doing that tonight in hopes that the third issue will come out much sooner then the second one. :)
@texture, no sir thank YOU for putting together the whole Twitfic affair together. During the time I was just hoping for enough content to be submitted, I would read one of the entries on there and just think that nearly a dozen people had submitted stories already. So eventually with more poking, prodding, and begging (not too proud to admit it) more would come through the pipeline.
@flecky just send your story to makesomethingmag@gmail.com. Along with a 220ish character bio. The piece should be anywhere between one page to six pages long once laid out, which is about a page and a half to twelve/thirteen pages in a word document.
