Our tradition now seems to be packing or unpacking shit to move. Hopefully this is the last time. Got the house, though the circumstances are less than ideal (right now.) Inlaws' train is getting in at just after midnight. So, technically, Boxing Day. How appropriate--help us pack our shit so we can get out by the 1st.

I'm alive, but barely. Been on the road on a holiday tour of Colorado since yesterday around noon. Traveled from Colorado Springs up to Denver for Christmas Eve dinner, then further north into Brush to crash for the night, then further north this morning into the frozen tundra of Wray, where the temp is a balmy -15F, the wind is 45 mph, and 3-4 foot snow drifts. I may never see civilization again. Me, I'm staying at home with the folks, which is nice on one hand, but on the other after the present unwrapping and the upcoming cooking a Large Beast, it doesn't really feel like anything's different. It also sucks because the present I got for my dad didn't come in.

It was kinda nice though, once all the craziness was over. The kids still do the santa thing,and were so excited.
We had discovered a little wild mouse that's been stealing old catfood from the inside of our shop vac I moved to the porch to make room, so on christmas eve night we put a bowl of trail mix out for it (and the reindeer according to the children). I hope it found it. I have a fondness for mice, as long as they don't get into me foods, and I doubt any mouse would step foot in this house with the smell of snake,dog and cat everywhere.
Last week my ball python escaped and I was really worried about her, but on christmas eve, I was talking to my dad on the phone in Kodama's room, and I guess she was done hiding because I happened to look down and there she was peeking out from behind a bookcase. she was ready to come back to her tank. she was so cold! I cuddled with her for a couple hours and warmed her up, then put her to bed. Unfortunately she didn't eat the dead mouse I had left out for her when she had first disappeared and I can't afford another one until the first (I'd have to travel about eighty miles round trip to get the mouse and I don't have that much gas in the car). I prepared for such an event though and fattened her up really well over the last few months so she'll be okay. grumpy and pouty but okay.
I was really happy about what I got this year. my husband's granny made us a black, grey and white patchwork quilt (I won't sleep under anything else. I've got three from her now). my hubs got me about six of the time life Enchanted World books. It was the best present he could have gotten for me. When I was an itty bitty kid my aunt sent me three or four of them and my dad would read stories from them to me for bed time stories. It was how I got my obsession with Beowulf,dragons and monsters. I've been hunting the series down my whole life, and have managed to collect about ten of the thirty something they put out.
After christmas morning my hubs mom came and whisked away the children for a couple days, so chris and I sat around watching movies all day. We watched Paranormal Activity last night and a documentary on vikings. I was actually kinda impressed by paranormal. It did the blair witch thing better than blair witch. I thought the folks in it acted a lot more realistically.
