My little brother was talking about Whitechapel (as a great community to meet artists/writers/geeks) for a long time, before I ever figured out it was a webcomic as well. Somewhere along the way made the connection that Warren was writing some ongoing thing... Stumbled in about March of this year not really knowing what to expect.

I found it from the LJ which someone pointed me at during a phase where I thought trolling certain ljs with a modest proposal and babyback ribs recipes was funny. Okay so I still think its funny but haven't acted on that in a while. I had no idea who Warren was beyond an interesting fellow; I liked his Falconer stuff, and the music he put up on the lj, started reading the .com, found whitechapel, and started reading FA from around the beginning, though at first I was pretty much afraid of everyone here.
I got snagged on FA from the promo-pieces before the comic popper went up. I still think they're lovely.

For me it was (as is so often the case) serendipitous link-to-link browsage, wasting time in the way the Good Lord intended. I find so many wonderful things that way; my bookmark tab has been worn to a virtual nubbin. (Snx snx.) Freakangels is a particular wonderment, in that its quality just keeps on rising. IMVHO, FA will be the standard by which webcomics are measured, and I'm delighted to have been in the bleachers since episode one. Happy 2010, everybody.

I didn't really here any details about it there unfortunately, then later some fan of FreakAngels was flaming this other web comic saying it sucked and said he wished more stuff was like FreakAngels then gave a link for the comic here. I followed that link and I read everything. My thoughts being, "Yeah, this is good."

I followed a link off Girl Genius, and read myself to the then current comic. I was raving about Freakangels to my older daughter, and she asked if I had ever seen Transmetropolitan. She has been a Warren Ellis fan for a long time, and passed along ALL of Transmetropolitan for me to read and return, on threat of pain if I lost or ruined any of them. I have enjoyed British dystopia science fiction, steampunk, and such since I can remember. I only began reading graphic novels a couple of years ago. I read underground comix back in the sixties, and this stuff is like that, but with better art and stories!

Started following Warren Ellis on twitter because of someone's follow friday recommendation, followed an update post of his here. I LOVE post-apoc fiction so it was perfect for me. I was unemployed at the time so I read the whole damn thing in three days in blocks of about two to three hours at a time. I like to read comics slow and look at all the pretty pictures. I'm totally addicted, even bought the first graphic novel version from my local indy comic store that features a whole rack of only Warren Ellis titles. Free comics on the web are nice, but it's a totally different and much more satisfying experience to hold it in your hands.

As a Scouse Englishman - almost a contradiction in terms - I'm a particular fan of the unholy triumvirate of Morrison, Ellis & Moore, and although I wasn't keen on the Freakangels as a name, or the APPARENT unoriginality of the concept after reading the first page, I told myself it wouldn't do any harm to read one more page - something I've been spending the last few hours telling myself over and over again!

Read TRANSMET in college as I could really relate to the Journalist vs. the Establishment motif. Got out of comics but visited the Warren Ellis website over the years for nostalgia. I knew he was going to do webcomics eventually in a big way and I wasn't wrong.

Got hooked on episode 7. HOOKED. Kirk looking up at the sky, glancing at his watch just to double check when he already knows the time, getting on the horn to tell everyone it's going to be a good day. The only time a writer will spend so much time on such a scene is when he has confidence that what he has is REALLY GOOD. It's like Steinbeck's EAST OF EDEN or Dickens' BLEAK HOUSE. These are writers who know how to get to the point but they will build it up when the payoff is worth it.

Took a while to brave up enough to WHITECHAPEL to register and make comments. But when you're getting this much artistry for free you have to pay respects.

I started reading Doktor Sleepless when it first came out, and then after reading the backmatter, signed up at the Doktor Sleepless website, and then hopped on whitechapel, about a week before the first episode of FreakAngels. (and man was I shocked, I had no idea that I would be this hooked, by something this good, for this free!) Every time I've tried to read the first issue of Transmet on the Vertigo No. 1s page, my internet browser has crashed. It got to the point that I was trying daily to get to that first issue. I became mildly obsessed with Transmet, and from there looked everywhere for other examples of Ellis's work to see what on earth could possibly be contained in that first issue.

Basically, because my town doesn't have a sufficient comics store, I started reading FreakAngels.

I was reading Order Of The Stick by Rich Burlew, and in the News section, he mentioned that a certain webcomic called FreakAngels had beaten OOTS to 1st place in some competition of some sort. So I checked it out, and now FA is my new favorite webcomic. :))

I was getting back into comics after about eight or nine years.
Or it would be more accurate to say that I got into comics that aren't horrible canonuity messes that make you beg for mercy. And I heard some people drop the name FreakAngels and it's apparently free.

By now the only online comic that comes close to how much I love FreakAngels is Gunnerkrigg Court and I own all four books released so far, one of them twice. Once in English once in my horrible mother tongue, German. I didn't even know the comic got a translation so I was surprised to find it in a train station bookstore next to Spiderman, Batman the X-Men and several other man-things. The translation isn't too atrocious, but everyone who's capable of understanding ze Englisch should read it in ze Englisch.

By and Large I've always been a Warren Ellis fan. I found out he was going to be doing this and have been surprised. Easily one of the best books produced in comics and right with Fell, Planetary and Transmet as my favorite things Warren has done.

My son put me on to Ellis. He's a fan, and found Freakangles...thought I'd be interested....He was right. I read 80 or 90 episodes in a row, and then went through withdrawal when I had to wait a week for the next installment.

Discovered Ellis on Twitter, bought "Shivering Sands" from Lulu.com, loved it, went to blog. From there I found Freakangels, which drew me in with its premise and gritty style. If it weren't for Ellis, I would still be skeptical about graphic novels. Now I'm revisiting the genre to see what I've been missing.

After discovered we were the only 2 graphic novel comic book geeks at a party with male strippers, my friend's brother kindly alerted me to this amazing webcomic. My gf showed me the first volume at our local comic store in Quebec, Canada. I looked at it and said "nah, doesn't seem that good". A few days later I decided to search for it on google, looking for a review, and found the site. Got up to date in two days... My girlfriend is now reminding me every week when I go to read my 6 pages that "it doesn't seem that good"...

I was lurking & reading here in Whitechapel for a while before I first discovered FA. And here I am, less lurky, still reading in Whitechapel now FA's ended.

FA is one of those things I wish I could expunge the memory of just so I can re-experience how it felt reading it for the first time.

I was at second hand comic store in West London,speeding like fuck wading through the 50p bargain basement like the demented addict i am.I found a few blinders and took a massive pile of good-shit to the counter.A cool guy saw some of them and said, "Ahh, you like Warren Ellis,yes? I knew Ellis from a bit of his previous work. I was cruising the new releases table in my local shop and picked up the first trade the week it came out. Asked the guy working and he told me about the series, and told me I could check it out online if I wanted. I am pretty sure after I found the site I read everything that had been posted until that point in one sitting. That was a good day. Been around pretty much every friday since, and spent many and hour in between reading, laughing, lurking, and very occasionally posting on Whitechapel.

I stumbled across Whitechapel when I was doing a google search for "Misty Comic The Sentinels" and found the remake/remodel challenge for Misty covers. My only regret is that I didn't stumble across it in time to put in an entry.

I was doing a random trade paperback search on Ebay and came across the first 3 signed hardcovers for super cheap. Also remembered some reviews on older episodes of CGS and AC podcasts. Figured it would just be a quick read and resell, but I was engaged by the end of the first volume and hooked by the second. The unique personalities of the characters perfectly balance each other other. I also sense some anime influences as well? I'm looking forward to catching up on the storyline and perusing the boards.

A very cool lady gave me this outrageous quote about stabbing and brain damage and god and it was attributed to Warren, so I visited his LJ to see what was up and it seemed intriguing. Freakangels began a few months after that which seemed like a pleasant surprise, though quite confusing. I was most pleased there were other lonely psychos out there in winter 2007-08 trying to survive the holidays somehow. I liked that someone around here had a healthy sense of what to do with all the internet shut-in behavior. Later on of course while he was borrowing my work I described the process incorrectly in a letter and got him very mad at me, leading him to commit a series of felonies which still seem pretty baffling. For the most part though it seems like others committed the actual violence while he was stationary by a computer. I'm assuming. He's a great writer, with a gift for kindness sometimes, who probably owes me a laptop and a few years of my life back. A lot of time it was no fun being a Julian Assange type getting monstered by a secret society stooge. You can think of it like George Clinton though, who was constantly sampled and never paid for it, eventually helping huge movements get started. And they're trying to nail Murdoch on the hacking and wiretapping and so forth, what does that mean about this place?

Thanks for all the help with the homicidal internet stalkery btw, it was really great getting no cooperation at all when all those people started dropping dead. We used to say "comic book violence" as a way of writing off innocent ideation. When someone is sounding mean you could always say it was just "comic book violence", now that explosions constantly rock the Earth and life as we know it has been changed permanently, I think, well, at least he was help surviving that horrible winter.

And also, I think that very cool lady poisoned my tomato juice but I still think she's great. :)

Honestly I was visiting the grave Of john Wyndham to plant a triffid. When this hand holding a mobile phone with web browser suddenly shot up out of the ground whoosh like a friggin lady of the lake but in compacted grave dirt so it was more like rumble then a whoosh. and I'm all like "hope you haven't had that on all the time in there roaming charges will give you a coronary mate"

But it had the Freak angels website already loaded on screen which is nice as some phones take ages to load if you just have the site up on Google so i pried zombie Wyndham fingers off breaking a couple clean off the knuckled accidentally of course which i put in my pocket to sell on Ebay for later

then went home inspired & rip /i mean bought it off amazon!
