Hey Guys, the original got shut down because of inactivity. I put this one under Music so we don't run into the same problem...(I think only London Zoo posts close after 5 inactive days). Anyway, mine is almost done. Should be out within a day or two. It's just down to writing the playlist now. Despite my paltry knowledge of music, this has been a lot of fun for me and hopefully it will be enjoyable for the person who gets my cd too.
I finally got my comp fixed, so the mix is going out tomorrow. I'm a bit late, and I'm sorry for that. Didn't expect my comp to bitch out just before Christmas.
I mailed mine out. . . the 17th of December or so? I couldn't think of anything clever to do, art wise, so thought the totally minimal look was best. Plain envelop, blank case, blank CD. Quite stark.
The mix turned out quite good, in a rock n' alternate roll kind of way, and I'll post it here, or email it to whomever is interested, if the recipient doesn't mind? my email, for those who want the list is: eight.blocks @ REMOVETHISgmail.com
I toyed with the idea of making a fancy cover and whatnot, but decided that I'd put off making and sending the damn thing quite long enough. FINALLY got it into the mail today, so (since it's going from Iowa to the UK) it'll probably arrive in about a week. I really should have included a track list, though, since I was really wishing for one with the disk I received! I think it'd be a keen and fun idea for all of us to post track lists here, just because I'm nosy as to what others chose :) Thoughts on that??
@misplaced mind I'm all for posting track lists! Since that's two of us, now, here's what I sent out:
Teeth by Lady Gaga Runs in the family by Amanda Palmer Disco Sheets by Wolf Parade Arrive by Horse the Band Whale Song by Modest Mouse Astronaut by Amanda Palmer Vlad the Impaler (Alt LP Version) by Kasabian On It by Mindless Self Indulgence I'm On a Boat by The Lonely Island Whiskey Trigger Finger by Look Afraid Barely Legal by The Strokes Want You To by Black Light Burns Dull Life by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs red rubicon by Cloudboy (if you have trouble finding this, lemme know and I'll see about scrounging a copy)
@Dorkmuffin : The Fame Monster is very reminiscent of early Lords of Acid ("Lust" in specific) which I grew up listening to, so I had that entryway --Alejandro, in particular makes me smirk. Also, I find myself enjoying "club songs" (like So Happy I could Die, and Telephone) a lot lately***. All that said, Teeth is definitely the standout track in my opinion, mainly because, as @oldhat ('ello thar) says, it could easily be done by Tom Waits. Also, Teeth's roots are the furthest from where the rest of the album seems to start, ie: it has gospel and southern and tribal-chant elements wound through it.
***These sorts of songs are depressingly missing from Timbaland's lackluster Shock value 2 which I've found almost entirely lacking the jump around and f**k energy of Shock Value, which is one of my favorite CD's from 2ish years ago. That disc had three(?) songs that got played regularly at bars and clubs everywhere. . . on this album, I don't hear anything close to that kind of power. . . /aside
have burned my CD and will be sending it in the next day or so. Apologies to my recipient for the general tardiness, but you WILL get some nice music....
@phill_sea - hey, I got your CD! How fortuitous. I'd been listening to track 3 thinking, "Damnit I KNOW that's Spencer's voice... why have I never heard this?!?!" Hehe now I have to track down that EP.
Here's the track listing for what I sent out. I hope the recipient doesn't mind seeing it before receiving the disk.
