Our friends and occasional visitors, the Finnish beat-industrial mutants Älymystö, have released their new EP, entitled 19:38:00 -- and you can stream the whole thing for free on last.fm.
Hey gang. (And thanks for the stickification, Warren!)
We have indeed put out an EP as a split release with And Then You Die. At first this will be a digital release, available as a stream on last.fm and god knows where else (Spotify is being tardy), and for sale on iTunes and Amazon and othe usual culprits. It'll come out as a collector's edition picture vinyl on April 1st, at which point we'll officially put it up for free download as well.
Since some of you may be wondering, we haven't put up a free download yet, because the nice folks at Skithund Records would like to ephasize streaming and digital sales first. We felt it was a reasonable enough request from an independent label.
That said, it is still CC licensed, so distribution is not frowned upon, we just won't be doing it ourselves, YET.
If you picked up our previous record Atomgrad, this one's a bit more poppy. No, really. And it has beats and things for you to move to.
Let us know how you like it. We've been listening to this thing pretty intensively for the last, what, four months? so we really appreciate comments and criticism from people with more distance to the music.
I just had a crazy idea. I'm going to try and make it so our gig in Helsinki this Thursday could be streamed live. That'd probably be around 10 PM our time, or 8 PM GMT. Any recommendations for a service that could handle a reasonable quality of audio?
EDIT: justin.tv seems pretty straightforward to set up, so that's where we'll most likely be doing this.
hot damn. I think I'll be busy during the day on Thursday, but when I figure out what time it is for me I'd love to watch. Does justin.tv record/archive it, too?
(Oh, and if any of you would be interested in writing an actual honest-to-god review of the thing someplace? Hit me with an email and we'll see about a review copy or something. Address is in my user info for registered chaplains.)
ALSO! Tonight's show will be starting -- according to the schedule -- at 9PM local time, which translates as: 7PM GMT / 2PM EST /11AM PST
I'll be kicking up the link an hour or so before the show, once we get the technology on our side.
The blog post link up there should now make it easy for you people to play back the recorded show. The sound quality was ... well, abysmal, but we'll make sure to improve that situation in the future. This may well become a regular thing. Hopefully the clubs in the Baltics have a net connection.
Also, justin.tv is a fucking wonderful service to set up. Recommended.
I think this will definitely be a future thing. We did this in 2005 in our gig in Moscow (it was an adventure to do it with a technical staff that spoke 10 words of English) and I have to tell you that technology has marched on. I'll certainly be looking for a better camera setup, for starters.
This time we'll be getting the sound directly from the board, so you might hear something other than distortion. Okay, in addition to the distortion, you'll be hearing other things.
ETA: Please make all necessary sacrifices to the Internet Gods so the wireless'll stay up nicely.
