Right now, I've got the Horrors on. Last.fm says that this past week I've mostly been listening to:
Los Campesinos! (new album. Don't like it much.) Cymbals Eat Guitars Saxon Shore toe Blank Dogs Grouper William Orbit Herzog Vampire Weekend (new album. Don't like it much.) Eno - Moebius - Roedelius Scott Tuma & Mike Weis Mondo Drag Current 93 Ocean Of Ghosts Broken Bells
i bought the SAID GUN tape...it unfortunately sounds like the moment when you decide to go have a beer in the parking lot because the band isnt very good. nice guys...but yeesh.
also still the audio face beating known as the LOW THREAT PROFILE 7", the HOT CROSS -risk revival 12", WIZ WARS bad ass game boy music demo, and the newest WEEZER single. yep.
Y'know, I'm seeing more and more people go to tape. I have to haunt blogspot sites that digitise the tapes once they're safely sold out, to hear some stuff.
Been listening to Future Of The Left's newish album Travels With Myself And Another and enjoying it immensly, especially the 4th track Throwing Bricks At Trains.
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago Danger Mouse - The Grey Album Gallows - Grey Britain Parkway Drive - Killing With a Smile Fionn Reagan - The End of History Sage Francis - Personal Journals

i only know how the punk/HC stuff is, but the past year or two have seen an explosion of tapes for a few reasons-per unit production cost for a pro tape with a nice diy insert is close to $1 per unit (compared to vinyl costs, and a tape can hold a 7" or an LP worth of material at anywhere from 3-6 dollars a piece), turn around time on pro tapes is MUCH faster than vinyl in the US and (i hate to admit it but) it adds to the cultivated 'mystery persona' that is popular right now. using an 'obsolete' format and making only 200 tapes that sell out instantly gets more hype than actually putting out a good record in some circles right now sadly.
however there is a TON of good shit coming out tape only (im lookin at you, THE WORLD ITSELF IS A BAD DREAM and the first NAZI DUST ep), and i think its pretty reasonable for bands/labels to put out a super limited tape as something just to generate tour money when they then put out the music for free. that way the niche fetishists like me can still hunt down the tape if we want it, or just grab the files from blogs.
Filling the air at Lazarus Corporation HQ this past week:

I highly recommend at least Philip Dickau's album and the DJ Rupture/Matt Shadetek collaboration.
Tom Waits live. Glitter And Doom. Got it for Christmas and haven't stopped listening to it since. I want to sing like Tom Waits, but uh. I am a tiny white girl. Don't know that voice would fit my face. Tricky's Maxinque has returned to regular rotation.. the Mood demands it. To a lesser degree, the glorious and elusive Sand Merchant.
funny i was also listening to the Jesu EP today as well...
