Satan's Monk is what I have decided to call Grindustrial Horror Metal. All of our songs are based on horror stories (films, novels, etc.). I do all of the writing and programming myself for this one. I'm about to order our first t-shirt, and we'll be heading into the studio in the next month or two for the first official time.

Royal Monsters is more of a collaborative effort. We've been compared to Isis and Propagandhi by the same person at the same show, so we're a little bit all over the board, but for lack of a better term, we're a "hardcore punk" band. We're about to head into the studio to record our second 7". This one is being put out by King Of The Monsters Records, with the last one being put out by New Age Records. We've done a couple of short, west coast of the US tours, and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

Death Watch a doom trio verging on the postrock/noise side of things. we're currently doing a heap of shows in our home town of Aberdeen and are hoping to get out and about soon. everything on the myspace was recorded years ago when it was just our guitarist, so we're going to record later this year. our songs are based on the failure of humanity, the fact that 2 of us suffer from bipolar disorder and arctic explorations in the 18th century.

Handle This Wino Like He Was An Angel: Baubles & Gewgaws 2002-2008' (which is (mostly) a line from a Richard Brautigan novel) and is available from here. You can also stream the album in it's entirety on Mixcloud.

Between 2002 and 2008 I recorded and released 7 albums, 2 EP's and various compilation tracks under the alias of Psychic Space Invasion. They were, I'm happy to say, a stylistically varied bunch that ranged from sinister ambient (This Quiet World) through loop-based psychedelia (Pendulum) with excursions into minimalism (All God's Children Got Space), noise (Lullaby For Rhodri) and musique concrete (In the Mean Time) with a few other detours along the way. all of which, and more, can be dl-ed from the Quiet World website btw.

The 15 tracks that make up this album are out-takes from the sessions that spawned those albums. They are the interesting little sideroads that sessions sometimes take that don't always lead you where you'd intended to go but make for a fun detour in and of themselves.

Banjo Engine 1 - has been selected to be part of a 60x60/UnTwelve event at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago on April 27 (or maybe April 24). May be included in a show in NYC, too. "60x60" features compositions 60 sec long or less. UnTwelve is apparently dedicated to microtonal music. One reason I call my work "sound sculpture" is because I didn't intentionally compose anything "microtonal", I just like screwing around with pitch.

Thursday i play with Unreliable Narrator at Little Mountain Gallery for the event Fundraiser for Sheena's Dad - a woman who volunteers a lot on the downtown East side (a pretty rough place in Vancouver) and spends her life trying to make others better has a sick father, and all proceeds from the show go to help her. the others on the bill are Aunts and Uncles, Strike!, and James de Cosmos (of SSRIs). show at eight. five to ten sliding scale - no one will be turned away.

and Friday i play with The British Columbians in Fort Langley at the Fort Langley Community Hall with We Hunt Buffalo, Something Paisley and Midnight Hours. show at eight. ten bucks at the door. no minors.

playing tonight with Half Chinese. their drummer has been a bit of a flake lately and they asked a friend of mine to be their drummer. he said he would so long as i could drum with him. so i'm half of a drummer in Half Chinese.. the show is at the old Cobalt [917 Main Street, Vancouver]. not sure what the new venue is called, but it's the same address... also on the bill are Fall Fair Car and Button Fields for only $8.
on Friday i'm playing with Half Chinese again for a Safe Amplification Site Society fundraiser also featuring Chris-A-Riffic, old school Vancouver Punk legends The Furies, and Payday Millionaire at Artstarts [808 Richards Street] at 8pm for only $5 - 10! All ages...

It's a 5 song EP, written, recorded and mixed last night, using a guitar, a small circuit bent keyboard and a 4-track cassette recorder.
All the songs are about classic arcade games. They're in Portuguese, but aren't very intelligible even for someone who speaks the language - so that shouldn't be a problem.

Summerland is one of two albums that I still regularly get asked for copies of.
The album was made using field recordings made by Banks Bailey in the deserts and mountains around Arizona and some guitar by Darren Tate (of Ora & Monos reknown) to which I added my drones, noises and effects and then mixed them all together into the 5 tracks. I think it's the album I enjoyed making most of all the things i've done.

It's something of a Hauntology album - at least it's inspired by that type of music.

Rather than working from what past cultural movements thought the future would bring I started by thinking of what an individual dreams of their future and how easily that dream changes.

I think with the speed of modern culture we're all haunted by other people's information and messages. To cope with this some people do prop themselves up with old fashioned ideas but many others are lost in the noise, fighting the noise - fighting the dread of being overtaken.

For instance: We had a show booked for next week but the venue switched bookers. The old booker didn't communicate with new booker. The new booker booked a completely different show on the night we were set to play. Then the new show was cancelled because some of the bands couldn't do the gig anymore. We see a post on the internet from one of the other bands saying "We need bands to play this night!" We collectively say "WTF!?" and call the venue. They say "Oops we switched bookers and didn't put your gig on the calendar." So now we're playing again.
