The usual start of the thread on Monday seems to have gone awry so here's a start.
New week's releases are up at http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/ - just choose a genre from left and click "magic mix" to stream excerpts from the new releases.
@hmobius: What do you think of Hellbilly Deluxe 2? I personally like it, and consider it's dirty, horror pop feel a welcome change from his last few albums. It just seems...better. I don't find myself turning it off halfway through like i did Educated Horses. I was actually listening to it thinking it sounded like La Sexorcisto from the early White Zombie stuff a bit.
Wu-Tang/Beatles Mash-Up - Enter the Magical Mystery Chamber Eluvietie - Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion Four Tet - There is Love in You Gatsby's American Dream - "Saint Nicholas" (Single song, and yes, it's a Christmas song.) Big Sugar - 500 Pounds Doomtree - Doomtree Hacride - Lazarus
@Internaut: Given HB1 was released 12 years ago, I'm amazed how similar HB2 sounds, which is no bad thing. RZ's music has always been about soundtracking the Cirque du Freak, like he did with White Zombie before going solo. I need another few listens but the glee in his oily horror metal is there and it sounds good to me so far. John5 makes a good writing partner. What's the Four Tet like?
I've been listening to the new Rob Zombie and enjoying it as well. I dug HBD 1, but I was pretty bored by the rest until Educated Horses when John 5 joined. He seems to have expanded things a bit from the standard downtuned chug that the middle stuff was stuck in. The new one feels like it continues that creativity while still delivering the sleaze and gore we expect.
Other stuff: Pig Destroyer - PITY Motorhead - the first three albums Eyehategod - Dopesick Ramones - the first few Leatherface - Mush The Virus - Nowhere to Hide Zero Boys - Vicious Circle Danzig - III Alice in Chains - Dirt Bruce Springsteen - Darkness of the Edge of Town & Born To Run
Right now, Gravenhurst's Fires in Distant Buildings. Such pretty music.
Don't know what will be next; looking for a similar level of anger and hostility to the music of Eyehategod and Today is the Day with about the same pace and deliberation of Godflesh's Streetcleaner, but something with more crunch and slightly more crushing. Any recommendations?
Around 6 years late, but finally caught up with Run The Road. Have become just a tad obsessed with grime. And frustrated at how few inroads it has made into the mainstream.
Also loosened my purse-strings for There Is Love In You. Very pretty.
