Just found this on the wubb. Apparently Gil Scott-Heron made a new record after 16 years. At a time a lot of people seem hard-pressed to find meaning in the present and retro is the Chic du jour, this old school rebel seems eerily contemporary.
You know how a new sound comes around, and you see it get tried on by a variety of artists, to see if what it is fits with what they do? And for some of them, it almost fits, or they dissect it and take the heart out to serve their own agenda. Well, as I see it, dubstep has been patiently waiting for Gil Scott-Heron to put his words, poetry and voice into it and make it find it's high purpose.
This music is a blend so perfect, and yet needed to be thought of, and when you hear it, you wonder why it wasn't thought of sooner. But the answer is; it came around when it was ready, and that's what great music does.
