I loved that panel of whoever is talking to Arkady. It reminded me of the end of the Evangelion series, mostly because I read the background as them being on a stage and everything else was merely a prop. Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into it, but that was really brilliant, I thought.
And then the page after that? I loved the colours and detail. It's really beautiful. =)
And I think Arkady did do her water 'foomph' (yes the sounds in my head are like when Nighcrawler 'bamfs' hehe) before when she saved Kait. But I could be wrong.
Like some others mentioned, I for one can't wait to see what just unpacked in Arkady's mind.
I too am worried about Kait, mostly because "Maybe we can work something out" doesn't sound like the uncompromizing Kait I've been reading about.
Remembering that Mark is currently her prime suspect in the "JtR" murder that kicked off book 3, which sounds more Kait: a coy display of power followed by exposition, or "back to the interrogation dungeon with you, you bastard, you committed a CRIME"?
And on the topic, who in the room DOES the coy display of power followed by an exposition sound like?
(I'd also like to comment on how much these conversations add to the experience of this story. Thank you, thank you, thank you all.)
Back to breathtaking... "wingbeats" in a near death situation evokes a different comic. But since Ellis isn't derivative I think what's going on there is the rush of blood in Arkady's head as the water presses against her ears and she has to push from fully unconscious to ...some other consciousness. Really cool and I'm really nervous about all the rest of what's going on. Still nervous for Alice. Being in a tower and an honorary 'Angel doesn't make her a match for Luke.
Heartbeat is a little thready this morning. Play opens tonight. I'm a little nervous but not too freaked out...at the moment. Things are going to work...assuming I don't fuck everything up. It's just the rest of my life is still a horrid mess, bills are due and now I've gone some two weeks without a single serious attempt to find paying work. I love the play and love theatre but distracted by "real" life and that's a real downer.
At least we know what sort of shells Alice had in her gun - I'm fairly positive that was buckshot. I'm having trouble telling, but it looks like she maybe even winged him a bit?
Damned if you guys haven't ratcheted everything up yet another notch this week. Surely this cannot continue this way, I mean, can it? The laws of physics... well, you just... but, then...
Incredelicious suspense, gorgeasmic artistry... you guys are T. H. E.best!
And you ended with a wet pfft! I mean, I had never actually seen one before; I wasn't entirely sure it was possible...
But, pfft! ...there it is! A wet pfft!
I'm absolutely gobsmacked, me! (Thanks once again for that.)
Aw kyool! I love the bubbles. Also loved how it's jumping over to different scenes. Starting to feel like a past paced tv program ^_^
Hope you are doing great, Ariana. This time of the week is usually when I burn out but I'm trying to fend it off with my pal, caffeine. also; my cat slashed me right in the thumb this morning. That was very mean so I locked her in the bathroom and drove off to work. she'll be stuck in there until someone comes by. tough love, sorry!
At least we know what sort of shells Alice had in her gun - I'm fairly positive that was buckshot.
It needed to have been buckshot, to be effective; but, it wasn't effective, was it.
I count 4 pellet wounds on his torso, and two on his arm; plus 4 into the window of the door behind him, maybe 10 into the stone around that door, so at least 20 pellets in all; and the wounds are superficial: The Shotgun Meets the Box O' Truth.
Oog, my head's been pounding all day. I think you're right, now that I go back and look at the page again. He got one in the cheek too, it looks like, especially from the way he's giving it a ginger touch in the next panel. Paul's artwork is always brilliant like that, and it just keeps getting better each week.
Actually, it seems to be set up that Alice will continually have some element of surprise, since she knows the city's ins and outs way better than Luke does now. Plus, the badass Freakpowers seemed to work more by line-of-sight than anything else. So he has to see her to zap her.
Interesting week; spent mostly in a hotel near Miami working on a book on the maths-physics relationship. The plasticity of the place is offset by the sunshine.
Interesting episode; nice interweaving of the stories and clean underpants - always a plus.
Wow, just, wow! Episode 86 was pure awesome. As Warren mentioned years ago, he had at least enough plotting done for 5 books; every weekly installment suggests this could be quite a long run. I'm experiencing a major brain fart that prevents me from responding coherently, thank you Warren and Duffield!
The plot thickens and I am now officially Paul Duffield's (and his lovely assitants) groupie.
Wingbeats might also be one's own heart beat when it's pounding and you're focused and you hear it as well as feel the beats. Doesn't matter, all will be revealed.
@johnjones: Wouldn't be so sure about that. Kait didn't have to see the sword to dismantle it. Sirkka didn't have to "flush out" Alice in person when she was mentally unhinged by Mark. They've got the range to match their power.
