It is so not possibly Friday again and yet apparently here's FREAKANGELS.
Okay, but I'm serious though: is anyone else experiencing crazy accelerating weekday whooshery? 'Cause I know I've commented on how fast the weeks have been going by, but this week is definitely the worst in recent memory. At the current rate of acceleration, we should be well into next year by this time next month...
This week did seem to go by pretty fast... now. Unfortunately, while it was happening, it dragged a bit. If you feel the need to keep up with time speeding up like this, feel free to post next week's FA tomorrow :)
I had suspected Kait wasn't FOR killing Mark the first time around, but I was under the impression EVERYONE in the clan knew that he "died" at their hands. Also, I hope a game soon arises to guess how many people with guns will eventually be chasing Luke around Whitechapel. It seems like as good a time as any to bring back Janine.
@diello - nah, Kirk and Karl nattered about trying to shoot Mark before, and it was pretty clear that they were doing it behind the backs of the others. Everyone agreed he should be exiled, but it was those two who decided he should be bumped off too. Good leverage with Kait for Mark that is, he knows how to play the game for sure.
Well, the rate this block of episodes is going, the TPB better have raining coming out of it or I'll be disappointed. :-) Love the Arkady panel at bottom of Page 2 - that would make an awesome desktop wallpaper, y'know.
Last two weeks have taken about five minutes for me. A writing project I was working on fell through so rather than waste the material I've revised and extended it into a serialized set of blog posts. Trouble is the revision and extending usually takes me to about 3am. On the plus side, I haven't felt this able to produce new material in ages. Which is nice.
Ariana things are moving fast because you're busy. But I'll bet that if you try to slow down it gets too boring.
Epsoide 0087: This one is foundation for the rest of the story. Is controlling the weather more important than watering his plants? Getting set up for 0088- that's going to be some shoot out !
This week has gone quicker than drunks knock back liquor, but that's fine by me because it means I've finally reached payday, and on a weekend with lots of partying afoot, no less.
Time seems to be speeding up again in Whitechapel - this episode was just packed with things I could comment on, but I'll restrict myself to saying that I love the tight angles of the page where Alice is picking her way through the alleyways, and that I feel a little sorry for Luke despite him being an asshat.
free breakfast tacos this morning at work as a thank you from the building owner for all the tenants - which is always a nice way to start the day - and now FreakAngel. I'd say so far today is going well and I hope it continues.
Ha ha, when Jack came around the corner, I was like "Now who the fuck is this guy?!" And then I remembered. While the pacing is great, it's sometimes easy to forget things week to week (or month to month, in some occasions). Which really isn't an issue on a comic that's been going for something like two years now. So, I guess, forget I said anything.
I am, however, going to agree that both Karl's rain panel and Luke's expressions were fantastic this week. Something else I noticed is how little (especially in this comic) Warren uses bold in dialogue. I hate it when writers use it to make a sentence parse in a completely unnatural way. And it's a credit to the writing that it's clear enough that most of the time it would make bold redundant.
As far as the week:
I got a RAM upgrade (to 2.5gb from 1gb), so things actually load and switch properly on the compy. Haven't fired up anything resource-intensive besides Warcraft (World of), but based on that, RAM was really the thing holding back my system the most. Next upgrade will probably be a video card. At the same time, we built the wife an entirely new system, because I was tired of her freaking out when it randomly shut down. Considering it was a first-generation AMD64 with DDR memory, it's really about time to shoot the ol' girl, but I might use its guts for a server. We'll see.
And I definitely feel some sort of temporal disturbance. It seems like just yesterday I was sleeping in and lounging around the house from morning to late night. Oh wait, I'm unemployed. That's right. I really need to find a marketable skill set besides being really good at complaining about things.
I hate myself because when I got to the bottom of page 2 this thought unwillingly popped into my head "oh yeah, go Karl, makin' it rain!" Also, it is increasingly frustrating to me that they are using guns, or any type of weapons for that matter against each other. If I had crazy telekinetic powers that could disassemble anything in no short order, weapons would just seem comical to me. Then again they're not the wisest creatures alive either. Someone needs to yoda them a bit so they can figure out better ways to use their powers. I'm not going to refer to it ever as "the package" because that just makes me think of David Bowie's trousers in Labyrinth and then I start to giggle.
Awesome episode though, and at least it's not too much of a cliffhanger this time. Or so we are led to believe...
Maybe it's because I'm reading "The Family" by Ed Sanders (formerly of The Fugs) right now, but I'm getting a Charles Manson vibe from Mark. What with Luke saying the FA should be gods among fuckpuppets, I wonder what Mark has going up north.
My week *vanished* but it was the week before payday so that's okay. Busy days at work and busy nights at home scanning and posting 1930s collected by a German who suppressed photo agencies at the behest of the Nazis. No actual Nazi photos, but plenty of early slice-of-life stuff about the Depression in the US, which I suspect was meant to contrast with life in the New Germany. Seriously, the guy was pipelining propaganda to the world's news agencies in the 1930s, but, despite their provenenance, many photos are nice examples of early photojournalism. It's a hobby. Anyway, more on that in the "cool old photographs thread" soon.
Now this is getting interesting. Jack and Alice perhaps teaming up to hunt down Luke. I almost feel sorry for the poor bastard now.
I just realized that Jack and Alice could be an interesting romantic couple given their relative similarities. I also realized that we haven't seen Conner in modern times in quite a while. Has he made an appearance since the end of Volume Three?
I can testify to weekday whooshery. even MEGAFWOOOSHery. Love all the faces in this ep and especially the moment of stillness at Page 5, Panel 3. How many holes has Luke got in him now? I can't keep track. And c'mon - she musta knew they tried to top Mark - she's playing him. Surely. Hopefully. Please? @shadodragon - good catch, I assumed it was Arkady as well, but those floral boardshorts are a dead giveaway.
Are we going to hear Mark's sob story now? I'm not interested. I'm not interested in Kait getting confused about whose right and wrong, even those shes ripe for it given her cop fantasy. It's a post apocalyptic setting so guess what Mark, Deuchs who try mind control should get slaughtered because theres no way to effectively rehabilitate such practices in said setting. He crossed a line, as well as Luke, and because they only hold each other accountable and because they both refuse to give up such practices, they should both be executed. They have a pretty sweet set up considering, why do they have to be such assholes about the package?
What if Karl is running the more gullible of the 'Angels to punish the whole lot for their mental broadcasting of bad sex - and Mark and Luke are his patsies? Aw crap - that makes no sense does it?
I don't care how justified Mark can make himself appear ...
Just to let whomever know, when you go to freakangels directly its last weeks epsidoe, you have to click the link off of Whitechapel to get the new one. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but thought i would mention it. thanks all and another wonderful Friday. thanks
