GLITTER AND DOOM - Tom Waits. Tom Waits has never made a bad album, live or in-studio. That said, I'm less than thrilled with the song selection, although I'm not sure I could explain why.
I LIKED YOU BETTER WHEN YOU HAD NO HEART - Butch Walker and the Black Widows. The GF handed this to me; I like it well enough.

New HOT CHIP: "ONE LIFE STAND"
Certainly the equivalent to the Pet Shop Boys "Behaviour"; a quantum leap up in lyrics and songwriting finesse. Liking it very much, and like peeling back the layers. Worth a listen.

@Taphead: I picked it up on a whim a few years ago and don't really know much about Sylvian. Is his other stuff much like this moodwise? It's something I often return to. Also, is Spoon's "Transference" any good? I ask as I have "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" and quite enjoy it.

Sylvian's solo albums prior to Blemish are pretty much in the same vein; moody, melancholy and very lush. Secrets of the Beehive is the one I'd recommend without any hesitation. The last two albums (Blemish and Manafon) are incredibly bleak and austere things that skirt avant garde when not full-on embracing it. I still haven't wrapped my brain around Manafon, but Blemish is incredible listening.

ETA: Transference is very good. Stuck on repeat over here.

im liking this NEW LOWS tape the more i listen to it. wasnt that keen at first, since its midtempo-yelly-moshcore, but its growing on me.

It's been a piano sort of day for me. I started with pleasant stuff like Clair de Lune and Einaudi's Le Onde, moved on to more frantic stuff like Hungarian Rhapsody #2 and Moonlight Sonata Movement #3, then my head exploded when I tried to tackle the first few movements of Sorabji's Opus Clavicembalisticum. That's where I draw the line for dissonant music.

Fucked Up - Couple Tracks (Now, lord knows I love Fucked Up, but I love them more when they're really experimenting with Hardcore. These single are more straight forward but are still head and shoulders above most current Punk.)

@jivekitty by some weird coincidence i found The Fight Club soundtrack at a thrift store today. It's pretty good. Very much akin to their regular studio albums.

Actually the Wiki tells me that the Dust Brothers and the Chemical Brothers are in fact different people. Although they sound suspiciously similar.

So to answer you question @jivekitty, it sounds like a Chemical Brothers album.

The band now known as Chemical Brothers originally used the name Dust Brothers. They had to chage it when the US Dust Brothers (the ones who did the Fight Club OST) objected. So by the time they released their first major-label album, they were the Chemical Brothers (the album was called 'Exit Planet Dust').

The Dust Brothers best-known work is probably the production on Paul's Boutique, the best out of the Beastie Boys albums. They have also worked with a huge range of other US artists, including the godawful Hanson.

In another interesting aside, my band stole the UK duo's name: we are the Chemical Poets. No relation.
