    Stereolab - Transient Random Noise Bursts With Announcements

    I saw Stereolab back in 92 around the time of Super-Electric and really enjoyed it - my housemate back then was a huge fan. Its only since I got Spotify that I suddenly had to find all those early Stereolab guitar/early synthesizer albums. Not so sure about the later kitsch-europop stuff. Anyway - they're all surprisingly hard to find. I've tracked down Switched On, and found Transient Random in Brum at the weekend, but the other early ones are all out of stock at most online UK stores and roughtrade.com tell me they're struggling to get a couple from the supplier for me.

    But I'd never heard this one before and it's marvellous. I'm not good at describing music but it has those sweet European, slightly flat-sounding vocals, chugging repetitive guitar noise and those vintage synths. Magic.

    Weird how Spotify has reminded me of the albums I want to own. And I'm paying for Spotify too! Can't decide whether I'm a victim of capitalism or supporting the creative artists I like...

    Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - pretty much everything by them, but "Home" and "Carries On" are good places to start.
    Peter Gabriel's "Scratch My Back" album of covers... I fucking LOVE good covers. On that note, The Cardigans have a sweet cover of "Iron Man" that you really should listen to.

    Recently dug out the first three Curve EPs (Blindfold/Frozen/Cherry) - they're fantastic. First album paled in comparison, although Fait Accompli was another good single. Second album is great, I remember, but my copy is vinyl and I've long since lost the record player...

    Guilty 90s indie dance pleasures? the Mondays Oakenfold remixes... First time I heard "Step On" was the true revelation, just as that beat, that piano opening, became cliche...

    @ Kernowdrunk - finally, not any more. I've run out of painkillers, so thank god. I think it wasn't the purity of the Makers Mark wot did it, it was the gin, beer and red wine that went along with it. And crashing into that fucking Audi yesterday. And pollen. And possibly Icelandic ash too.

    Curve are often on my car stereo... they had a lovely guitar sound and I really dug the dancey drums at the time. Bloody hell were they loud live. Might dig them and Utah Saints out when I've stopped feeling fragile so I can pretend it's 1992 again and I can drink without fear of consequence.

    New 65daysofstatic album is streaming at their myspace. Couple of duds, but on the whole I'm very pleased. It's even got Robert Smith on it. Which is good, I suppose? I think the last Cure album I really liked was Wish.
