Warren, please tell me that this teaser is REALLY for your small town detective series on ITV. Like Miss Marple only....you. "And coming up next, Warren Ellis finds himself wrapped up in another mystery when someone is murdered at a dinner party. Stay tuned for Captured Ghosts."
And your voice is fine and you look fucking awesome. That whole thing about taking photos of you with Mark Millar? Don't regret saying it. Well, maybe with Millar.
Warren, quit smoking cigarettes...you know they kill you, right? Make the switch to the e-cigarette, it's techno-sexy which I'm sure you're all about. Just a thought, dude.
I have a suspicion that, in Britain, you're accustomed to a more polished standard of radio voice than we are in America. (Also/alternately, it may just be hearing one's own voice, coming from somewhere other than one's own head; when I hear recordings of myself I always think they sound like some sort of tranquilized ape.)
Oh, and re: smoking, I would have to imagine that Warren has in fact noticed the giant "SMOKING KILLS" message which takes up an entire panel of cigarette packaging in the UK. I mean, if he hasn't, he's doing a remarkable job of concealing his near-blindness. (I still remember when I saw those warnings for the first time, in London; I immediately remembered Dennis Leary's "Drugs" routine and smiled.)
I think if a smoker got a dollar for every time someone tells them smoking kills, they'd be rich. Warren's no fool, the man can read, and has made his own choices. Let him smoke in peace.
I haven't heard you in maybe 8 years since the signing at Comic Relief. Your voice is fine - though in the trailer - you sound a bit gruffer than I remember. To my ear, you sound like a hard working driven writer.
I'm looking forward to this as well. I was a fan of the William Gibson doc, NO MAPS FOR THESE TERRITORIES, and this looks somewhat similar. Minus the whole "Ellis being driven around in a car the entire time" element, of course.
...or is this Documentary going to start off like a normal talking heads beast, only for it to morph in an episode of Jam with Alan Moore as the ghost of Comics past?
And I'm definitely looking forward to the doc. I always play the YouTube "Writer's Block" video when I get dejected about writing. It never motivates me, but it's always amusing.
