Been a bit quiet on the blogging front lately, but was inspired to put pen to paper having recently read Daredevil: Born Again by Miller/Mazzucchelli. In the same 24 hours I also saw Kick Ass, which for all its Hollywood sheen and hip tongue in cheek humour, has a lot to say about the darker side of masked heroics.

To me, both works acknowledge that their protagonists are fundamentally damaged people. In very different ways they both get to the core of their characters by stripping away layers of personality and genre tropes.

In a nutshell, the review's all about the deconstruction of superheroes, using Born Again and Kick Ass as a springboard. I thought both made interesting points about what lies at the core of the modern day superhero.
