Behind me, ladies and gentlemen, lo and behold.
    (yes, I'm on the right)
The first ever midwifery practise device. Yes.
    the machine
This obstretical dummy dates back from the mid-XVIIIth century by a Madame du Coudray who traveled around France to teach peasant women how to give birth. (e.g. teaching them not to pull by the ears in order to not tear the latters off)
For the record at the time a man claimed he was the designer of such a mannequin, his name was William Smellie (yep, Willie Smellie)

edit: there's a novel about that by the way.
You can see that device in the Musée Flaubert of my town. (Though I guess there's no Musée Flaubert anywhere else)

@Gekko - Dear god that is both creepy and incredible!

Hello Whitechapel, been a while, but I haven't forgotten about you. I return from work/stress imposed exile hairier and exhausted:
    Seb is tired
    But I come bearing gifts!
    Gifts!
