I think everyone's overlooking, due to Luke's zombiejesus shenanigans, the fact that Jack KNEW Sirkka was watching when he killed Luke. And he knew it would drive home his point about all this useless boring drama getting in the way of everybody saving the world. Beautiful installment though, and the last page DID have my jaw on the floor. Bravo.
The thrice weekly webcomic always makes the friday update the one with this biggest cliffhanger because you have to wait the longest for more. With FA its the page 6 jaw dropper.
Zombie Luke ? 1.) Man the people are hard to kill. 2.) If this bastard though he was a member of ZEE Master Race before he will a terror now. What are they going to do kill him?
So lets see Connon and Jack want to take off, Luke and Mark are in the same place again making two angels pooling their powers against the other a possibility.
Connor hasn't really had much to do. And now, he's leaving. Finding it difficult to care. Bye, Connor. You didn't do much, it's implied you used to be fat, you're all emo. Have fun taking long walks in the rain by yourself. Bye Connor. Bye bye now. Connor's BORING.
Luke being alive? Now THAT'S fucking interesting ...
Well, that one was a fucker of a twist. Well executed.
I think what got me more was the bit with Jack and Sirkka-- saw it coming, but that didn't really dull its impact. Extremely strong scene. Maybe I'm a bastard for thinking this, but I hope Jack doesn't apologize. He's not the one who needs to.
Connor also has a soft spot for strays. So what if he's a little emo? Just because he doesn't do much doesn't mean he's useless. One day he'll have something to do... there has to be twelve.
And also it will be a little tough when the only one of the guys who hasn't been an utter shit at some point is gone. I like nice people. They're nice. They make me happy in a sea of insults and yelling.
Wow, that dude is such an asshole to that chick. Also, holy shit that guy survived a shot to the head!
Morning, Whitechapel. How's everyone? Flooding, Spring cold snaps, etc -- everyone all right?
Oh, California is warming up now. This means people drive more like assholes than usual. It's like fucking Road Warrior out here. FUCK! And the wrong kind of people are going to begin wearing less clothes. Eep.
I knew, that was going to happen. Same deal with Mark, what I didn't expect was Luke looking like the motherfucking "Dawn of Dead" meets pissed off Midwitch Coockoos bursting into Miki's clinic.
That was awesome, pure and simple. Freakangels always brightens my Fridays!
Thoughts while reading this episode (fairness not guaranteed):
Whatever happened to Connor had better be bloody worth it. The first book sets him up as the male lead, and then this whole book he just hasn't been there.
OK, everyone was right about the immortality thing. Now let's find out who Luke really is. Other Freakangels have talked about him as if he was some kind of emotionally stunted genius, but apart from his philosophizing about time in the episode that introduced him, and his concerns about the "geomagnetic field" after setting off the Doomsday event, we've only seen the emotionally stunted part. (The quasi-Nietzschean "master-race" stuff... come on, anybody with two cents' worth of brain matter who's lived post-twentieth-century can figure out what's wrong with that.)
What, exactly, is the way Sirkka wants to live? What's her master plan for reconceiving the human relationship? Most pressingly, how is what she does to her "children" different from what Mark and Luke have both been killed for? Jack calls them her "slaves"; what's really going on?
Actually, were people right about the immortality thing? Or does Luke's return have something to do with Kait's foreshadowed revival ability? If so, she's got a lot better at it very suddenly...
Where is Mark right now? Mentally, I mean. Can we see more of the fourteenth-birthday flashback? Please, please, please? Pleeease?
This is actually held over from the last couple of weeks, but... maybe Mark wasn't too far off target when he told Kait she was a "little girl dressed up as a policeman". She takes far too personal an interest in fighting crime, if you ask me. I bet she wasn't drinking cider and smoking spliffs at fourteen!
I'd actually kind of like to see this turn into a redemption story for at least one out of Mark and Luke. Not that I think either one deserves it, but that's kind of the point... redeeming such (at the moment) clearly evil characters would be a triumph of the storyteller's skill, which is why I love redemption stories done well.
Bastard! 9AM this morning one of my co-workers walks in and says "Have you read today's FA?" "No." "Just do it." I hit page 6 and he ran off cackling. Bastard!
Helluva wrap for V4. Well done. Now we are twelve.
Both Mark & Luke are back at least to some degree. But what IS that? What happens to your typical FreakAngel when he or she dies? Do they take long breaks in the infinte cosmos, reflecting on the nature of things before returning to FA reality? Maybe they'll be decent people now. Or different anyway. Or maybe they have each suffered losses, and return in a limited way. Luke might not remember anything that happened if he just walks into the clinic to see Miki because his head is killing him. Is he a new person now? Mark might be the same way when he wakes up, wondering what all the fuss is about....
@Mister Hex: I really like Connor. It isn't that he is boring. Its simply he isn't the type to start screaming at everybody. I respect that he is a calm individual with a little bit of sensitivity. It doesn't mean he's emo, it just means he's the quiet one. And as I have always been the quiet type I can see where he is going. Though I don't walk out and leave, that irritates me. I never once got up and left because I couldn't take it. He's being a bit of a quitter.
