Ronnie James Dio -- who took over as lead singer of Black Sabbath after Ozzy Osbourne left the group -- died today. He was 67.

Dio announced last summer he was battling stomach cancer
. According to his website, he had been undergoing treatment at a Houston hospital.

A true legend, who helped shape the face of metal and rock 'n roll. He will forever live on through his music. Rest in peace, Dio.

So it was rumored that he passed, then that was denied by his wife, then he passed after that? What a crap 48 hours that must have been. RIP, Dio. For now anyway. I mean, death probably can't hold him. Soon the sky will crack open and he'll be back with flaming wings, shooting rainbows from his eyes and throwing the horns. At least I hope so.

Is it weird that Ozzy has outlived him?

In terms of their lifestyles, yes. Ronnie just got unlucky and got the cancer.

This man was amazing. I had the fortune to see him live with Heaven and Hell, and dear God does he have one of the most amazing stage presences I've ever seen. He performs so flawlessly. I'm sad to see him go

I'm glad that I got to see him on the '07 tour of Oz (especially since they were billed as Black Sabbath - somehow the Heaven and Hell name wasn't required down here). Sad day indeed.

I only recently discovered Dio's work (oddly enough through discovering that he was the vocalist behind a psychedelic singing frog video the ABC use to use as filler back in the 80's). A truly sad loss, I shall be making devil horns at random and inappropriate moments throughout the day in his honour.

A very sad day. I'll be listening to Rainbow, Sabbath, DIO, and Heaven and Hell all week. I'm gonna miss the guy, he was one of the greats still rocking! It will be a long time before he is ever forgotten.

When I read earlier today that he died, I was quite sad. He was a rock/metal legend.
