@jamesmsith3 Your pic reminds me of the fact I have always wanted either Rosario Dawson or Salma Hayek for the role of Wonder Woman in a movie. Very nice. -

If your comment is serious, I understand your feeling. In order to explain myself, I should say that a few years ago I was involved with a woman who’d had a mastectomy. She decided to save her life by having a part of herself removed. And then opted for reconstruction. Some pose topless to show their scar like a veteran’s medal. Others dictate new surgery after surrendering to what surgery had taken from them. I felt privileged when she felt that she could reveal herself to me when she decided to become intimate.
I believe that the human body is the battleground of modern issues. Race, gender, abortion, AIDS, cancer, aging, medicine, DNA, etc., etc., --there’s a constant battle between someone choosing to have authority over their body and the habit of a society to confiscate that authority.
Bottom line: As far as controlling the destiny of one’s anatomy, there’s a reason why a heart marks where my amazons’ breasts once were. -
bit of a rush job... but I'd like to meet the women who works at Amazon! -

Well, it makes me annoyed with myself every time I look at it, and I had to take a picture with my cell phone since my scanner died, but whatever, It's done. I'm not going to bother getting rid of the white out and wrinkles. I did learn a bit, at least. For one, never ever use cheap paper with ink like this again.

Fishelle: Holy Christ, I love that cover! I want that comic so bad it hurts. Hilarious and beautiful, I especially like NOT CRAZY! (except, you know, in bed...) and DOESN'T MENSTRUATE! (even though you spelled it "menstrate"... or is the idea that a man wrote it wrong and I just didn't get it?)
Raid71: That's gorgeous! As an ex-Amazon employee, I'd imagine that you'd like to meet Chantel from the "picking" department, but you should know that it's not all cute book nerds that work there (it's mostly white trash ICP fans...).

A wide variety of different ideas, styles and moods on display. And I'm glad I didn't do a classical Amazon since there were several examples which blew my sketch out of the water. Thanks for the comments as well. :)

What a great thread... sadly I was traveling so I couldn't do a proper entry and see the thread unfold in real time... I was stuck for 6 hours at an airport earlier today so at least I got the chance to do this scribble to share here just before the deadline.

@ jamesmith3; There is something about working with urban characters that requires a gentle touch. Sometimes it is so easy to work into stereotypes and never knowing it. You manage to skate the line with this piece and your Wonder Woman issue 1 not only remakes the character but the environment. Lovely work. As for my piece, I hadn’t really worked Ellis’s angle on a different era and such. I was going for something very similar to what you pegged.
@ Raid71; Splendid concept! The lines are very dynamic and I am reminded a bit of Anne Wu’s remake of Flamingo which was astonishing. Thank you for the kind words about my piece!
@ Gaston; I not only want that issue but I also want the animated series along with it.
@ Pupato; Your Wonder Woman has a very high fashion face. Brilliant use of layout!

@ Doctor Vulture - For myself, I wanted to see if I could draw a figure that was simultaneously intimidating and attractive, all while still being clearly disfigured.

Nuts...only catching this one now. Love doing re-interpretations of WonderWoman.
Oddly enough, that said, I actually did a Wonder Woman on another website this week (in the forums of Comic Book Resources - Project CBRunway). I had to interpret her as member of the Green Lantern Corps. So I took her on a Golden Age Womder Woman/Green Lantern approach, doing a little swerve and not going with the modern versions. Put it togerher on the idea that the Starheart landed on Amazon Island instead of in China, thus altering the island's history and severing the Amazon's ties to the gods....
If I had the time, I would try making up something new here. But I'm swamped with other things. -
