Listening to BBC Radio 6 yesterday ( Lauren Laverne) and she played an orchestral version of Tour de France by Kraftwerk. It was excellent. Check out the BBC i player to hear it.
Were Converge good enough to warrant hitching a 3 hour car ride and going to a festival with thousands of macho-metalcore teenagers? They play with Kylesa and Gallows (and more bandsI don't know / don't care about so much).
heres the deal:if you like this style of music-and you obviously do- CONVERGE is one of the best live bands you are going to see. BUT they are a band that doesnt always translate well to huge shows. they are best in a more intimate setting with no barricades and such so it all depends on how you feel about that kinda situation. i will tell you they are amazing perfomers, sincere, great guys and kids go totally fucking nuts when they play but i have skipped them a few times when they come through town with bigger tours. its personal taste really
ps KYLESA is a sight to see live with that thunderous two drummer sound. ive always liked them better live than recorded.
Most recent albums I have listened to from beginning to end according to my iTunes.
Wrong Way Up - John Cale & Brian Eno Before And After Science - Brian Eno Suicide - Suicide (fucking M.I.A. stealing the Ghost Rider riff NOT COOL) Lungs - Florence And The Machine Silent Shout - The Knife Those Who Do Not - Psychic TV This Binary Universe - BT Crystal Castles 2 - Crystal Castles (@ Mercer Finn I agree with your assessment, a very enjoyable album) A Nature Of Nonsense - Aural Rage Drama Of Exile - Nico Songs In The Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder
Lately, my music has been dominated by Tom Waits and St. Vincent. And by lately, I mean the last several months. I'm starting to listen to Andrew Bird a lot again, too. I listened to him way too much when Noble Beast came out, and mostly have been listening to his older stuff lately. Noble Beast doesn't have enough whistling. Favorite songs of the moment include Tom Waits: Poor Edward Goin out West Fish and Bird A Good Man is Hard to Find I'll Shoot The Moon St. Vincent: Actor Out of Work Jesus Saves, I Spend Paris is Burning What, Me Worry? Andrew Bird: Fake Palindromes Heretics Cataracts Plasticities Anonanimal
@reosarevok all of those bands are ridiculously amazing live, but not in a huge outdoor space, they are all best seen in the smallest space possible. I saw converge play with mastodon high on fire and Dethklok last year and the space was not too huge. Dethklok sounded amazing but for converge there was something that really did not translate to a large space, it was just kind of weird.
@Mercer Finn I didn't think it was possible to explain how beautiful that song is with words, but you have done it, my friend. I'm going to go listen to it again. And probably the whole album while I'm at it.
This week I've been listening to Clutch and Tom Waits a bit, but the player went into Ministry's 'Twitch' and I've fallen in love all over again. Any suggestions for new material you're listening to right now like it would be welcome...
