May 20th, 2010 - Everybody Draw Mohammed Day

I can't draw for shit, but I'll give it a go. Can we do this all here?

Oh god. I'm already dreading the godless amount of humoredgy art we'll be subjected to in the coming days. (Not here, but on the INTERNETS. This is not the Internet, this is Whitechapel.)

Hey, could someone maybe draw Mohammed just writing down the Q'uran and chilling?

I attempted to start a thread about this a few weeks ago and it vanished - Warren and Ariana may not be too thrilled about it. I've been saddened by all the people just shitting on Mohammed, but I still think it's a really good idea at its core. If religion has shown me anything, it's that people will always turn good ideas into shit when given the opportunity.

My Mohammed will be lying in a field, watching clouds.

There's something weird going on with this, the creator of the first poster has asked the people behind "Draw Mohammed Day" not to use her images, and yet her name is still on there...that's pretty dodgy.

Drawing Mohammed seems fine to me...but I wouldn't want to associate with the Islamophobes that seem to be drawn to this kind of thing.

Yeah, I see it becoming Let's Enable the Fanatics (on both sides) Day.

(Oh what was that? The law of unintended consequences? Nnnoooo, I don't think it rings any bells, why'd you ask?)

This seems to me to just be causing trouble for its own sake; real life trolls, if you will. And on top of it, they're offending a number of devout but otherwise perfectly normal people in the process. It's just childish.

Adding to the atmosphere of islamophobia and intolerance. Wonderbar!
I WILL NOT be attend or observing this horrible little example of insensitivity and immaturity.

What Taphead and Looney and most others said pretty much.

Why kick a wasps nest? There's no constructive conversation here, just childish baiting.
