I rarely post in these weekly threads because it's always good but damned if this week isn't brilliant enough to get me typing.
'Fuck my life, beaten up for being sexy, practising being fucking useless somewhere, scally twatcoffin, this is a bit shit really, Luke you're still a complete wanker,' five minutes from hometime and I was laughing so hard at reading all those lines my super thought I'd pulled overtime. Absolutely top draw and throw in the gold dust idea of an insanity field of live brains and my weekend started early. Grateful to all involved as ever.

My week went very fast, I am unsure if this is a good thing.

Luke the Wanker has a nice ring to it doesn't it?

Self awareness is a good thing as a rule. Shame Luke misunderstands Kait's little bit of theater with the swimming pool, as he has the flair for the dramatic.

Wanker is not what comes to mind when I think of Luke.

Dare I say it? Ok: Best. Episode. Ever.

Week was good, right now I'm exhausted from biking home from work.

@ Torvaun -

I'm beginning to suspect that the 'package' is in some way an extremely enhanced electromagnetic field - rather similar to what Luke was going on about.

For normal people, it's a barely there sort of murmur in the meat. For Freakangels, it's more there THAN the meat - so even with some form of brain death that electromagnetic field continues on just fine, because unlike normal people it's independent of that 'framework' - their 'minds' exist far outside of it.

I think that might explain why they can do the things they can do, too. They can affect real world change by thinking about it because their minds are unavoidably interwoven with the most basic fabric of it. In essence, I guess it's rather a bit like quantum entanglement ... but that's getting into esoteric stuff I can't really explain properly or better than this.

And it's probably just a shitty guess at best anyway.

Best, most, dynamic art yet ! I love the idea of the brain's energy being gradually grounded by earth.
Possibly true metaphysical gems from the mouth of a rapist with a huge hole in his head...dope as fuck !
The final panel made me say "AWESOME" out loud...
Can't wait till next week.

Another one of those guys that never posts, but MY! GOD! The artwork has always been consistently good, very clear and well defined, but MY! GOD! The use of colors, the bleed between panels, the slow increase of inter lap between moments, the incredible accuracy of expression... my god man. whatever they're paying you, unless it comes with a daily virgin and a private island, it's not nearly enough.

Yeah, the writing is solid too... but the art! Ellis routinely has good artists, and, again, this guy has been fun to see since day one, but this episode blew my socks off. Well f*cking done, mate.

If (and I dearly hope so) you make any more freak angels T-shirts it'd be good to have one with Luke on the front and a chunk of text on the back, in the style of Trainspotting's "Choose Life" rant.

Total agreement from me. Best yet.

Very animated and expressive artwork, Mr. Duffield. Combined with that monologue, I'd say this volume is off to a terrific start.

I'm really wondering what the lasting mental effects of Luke and Mark's 'deaths' will have in the long run, if we're going to see behavioral issues and changes, like Mark's stoned demeanor. I haven't been keeping up with the weekly threads, but has anyone brought up the possibility that Arkady suffered a similar brain death during her overdose? Or that she may have even 'died' twice now, after her thwack to the head?

oh my goodness me....freakangels is seriously starting to pay-off here...i agree with the chorus of this being a landmark episode....i gleefully await....

i KNEW that Luke hadn't paid off narratively yet and was disappointed by his (false) departure from the story....way to fake us out, Warren

wow. there's not words to describe how happy I am about this episode. Head-shot zombie Luke monologuing about death and poking his own brain... Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. All blessings of God be upon you and your family and friends and your descendants for giving this to me. Once more, thank you.

Great ep, folks.
Agreed; lots of t-shirt material in this one, and page last made me laugh. :D

I love this episode, its sheer brillance, both the writing and the art!

The panelling blows my mind! It is the most awesome panelling I've ever seen - its all of the same person, but every separate image is dramatic, intense and flows well to the next one! HOW DO YOU DO IT???

I also like how Luke wipes off his bloody finger on his shirt - someone should make a shirt like that, the torn, tattered, and bloody Luke shirt. =) With old blood in the middle but a fresh streak of blood on the left sleeve. So. Cool.

This is the best, best, ever episode in Freakangels. I love it lots.

Fucking brilliant start to finish folks. Incredible. "Luke you're still a wanker." lol Kills me.

And I gotta say...Luke's actually a lot more interesting now that he's been shot all to hell. Can we keep him?

@ MrSmite

It's been mentioned both here and within the work, yes. Apparently Arkady's overdose unlocked some of her abilities, and she's been doing the important work of developing them ever since. The drowning seems to have enhanced the abilities even further. We don't know whether she died or not, but what's happened with Luke now proves that she could have, and probably did, as did Mark.

Who knows how many times the kids have died and not even known it? Maybe Jack died when the Mudlarks attacked him. Maybe they all died when they did the BIG PUNCH.

But does the PERSONALITY change when they die? I'm not convinced. Mark is different from when he was 17, but we don't yet know how different he is from when he was exiled. Kaitlyn didn't treat him like he had changed very much, other than to point out that he looked ragged. But the raggedness could have been from isolation or starvation as well. Maybe even a side effect of being away from the others?

I guess if Connor does leave, it will show us what separation from the others means, as well as giving us maybe a more reliable view of what the outside world looks like.

To me at least, the scariest thing about Luke's return wasn't the wounds, or even coming back from the dead. It was that I could tell from his speech and body language that he HAS NOT CHANGED ONE BIT.

Paul, you've excelled yourself! I didn't think the facial expressions could get better than the last panel of Episode 97, but every single page here was amazing and the first panel on page one... just, Wow! Warren is also clearly enjoying getting the chance to to play around with Luke and the brilliantly erratic, yet purposefully focused, script combined with the art is just something magickal.
Thank You.

I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.
That was simply genius! I've never seen the art so expressive and dynamic, with such a vibrant conveyance of posture and movement. I keep on thinking 'Wow, Paul has really kicked it up a notch', and then he does something like this, and I'm made to just gawk at how something so bloody can be so funny and fluid and beautiful.

Truly my favourite episode so far, and technically superb in every aspect.

And we're getting this for free?!
