@ Adam Lucas - I seriously hope you were being sarcastic.

@ Warren and Paul - To praise your work, in a long-winded fashion, would be redundant at this point. Lovely.

On the Art - Still evolving, which is wonderful to watch. Though some keep praising the way Paul is having characters escape the frames as if this is new. He's been doing it for quite some time. Which is not to say it wasn't more pronounced in this episode. It was definatly a great time to take that up a notch. Wonderful body-language Paul.

On Luke - I like to think there is a difference between liking a character and agreeing with their opinions/ideas/behaviors. Luke's a great character because he creates plot constantly and gets people engaged in what's going on. Do I sympathize/empathize with him... not at all. Do I like him beyond what he does for the story, no. His rationalization for raping that girl makes me sick, because it's probably the same thing many rapists have thought. Which, of course, is a reason to praise Warren, because he makes me feel something when I read the story.

All of this coming back from the dead makes one wonder what it WILL take to kill a Freak Angel, because I refuse to believe that Warren won't kill any of them off. What will happen if one of them loses a head? How many pieces do they have to be in to perish? Clearly drowning won't do it, I doubt poison/disease would. I don't want to feel secure when they are in peril simply because it seems as though they cannot expire.

    Ah... the other thing.
Luke turns from Miki and addresses the others as "you two". You two.
We can safely assume he's leaving out the unconscious Mark. But is he just completely ignoring KK? Does he not figure she might have something to say about him shooting her out of the sky?
Also... Luke has never been there, that I recall, when Arkady has performed a teleportation. Does he know she can do that?

@Paul - The light shining on Luke's eyes in the last panel is a nice touch.

HIZ HED HAZ A TUNNELE THRU IT YAY!

Ahem. Seriously. Brilliant work all around.

Warren: you have, for some years, been the best writer of dialogue in comics, and I think this one's the capper.

Paul: I love the fluidity of this installment. I am absolutely no artist, but I can see (and appreciate) how much effort you've put into improving your art (which was damn good to begin with.)

Now we just have to wait to find out WHY the future is saying Luke's still a wanker...

Well, figure that the others won't be allowing him near defenseless members of the opposite sex, and since he has certain sexual desires, he will most likely wank at some point.

I'm so glad everyone adored that episode. Frakangels really cheers me up on a Friday Lunchtime...

Well that brings to mind some questions, doesn't it? What did Luke actually do?

According to Luke, (and I know he is a tainted source) he says that he was beaten up for being sexy, with a girl he liked. What did we actually witness? Couldn't it be likely that this girl that they claim he assulted, was experiencing some hot FA sex, and Luke was adding some mental sex with that? And then he just gets his ass kicked.

All I'm saying is, perhaps the girl was into some mind-control fetishy sexi with Luke, and then he gets called a rapist, is beaten, put in the torture pit, and is shot.

We all know Luke is a wanker, but sometimes, wankers aren't lying.

(I'm more being devil's advocate here, but I was just curious what others thought the likelyhood of this is)

I think the phrase "gobsmacked" should from now on, be properly used only to describe the experience of one who reads this episode for the first time.

I don't usually hear the voices of characters in my head when I read, real subvocalized dialog that is. I remember exactly when in /Cerebus/ when that happened for me - the "one less mouth to feed is one less mouth to feed!" rant. It meant that I'd gotten drawn *that* deeply into the work. Hiro Protagonist in /Snow Crash/ is another notable exception.

I heard Luke quite clearly, this episode. I felt like I was right there standing with the others, watching this mad spectacle unfold.

Mr Ellis, Mr Duffield, you have outdone yourselves. Seriously, I'm not much of a fan wanker, but this was tops as an opening salve in a new "season" in *any* medium, forget just webcomics. This carried a punch that was right up there with the pilot of /LOST/. I was taken back to a place in comics that I haven't been since my favorite pages in /Cerebus/ when Dave let Julius or Artemis off the leash.

    @government spy -

The same thought went through my head (wow, well done uncle warren) till i went back and reread ep. 59 p. 3 where the girl identifies luke as a bit creepy, not "ooh he's kinda cute" or whatever she would be likely to say if luke's assessment were in the same postal code as reality.

also, in the torture pit, NONE of this indignation came out, it was all "i deserve this we should treat ourselves better" etc., essentially justifying his control of the girl, not looking around saying "what'd *I* do?"

yeah, redundant or not, mr. duffield: you are really soaring to new heights with this. unbefuckinglievable. the look on luke's face as he says "you're still a complete wanker", if nothing else. but, y'know, everything else (:

(@nakedcelt - yeah, i was wondering where kk went too. ALSO wondering where arkady went. guessing kait just walked out of the clinic, unless she hasn't had time to leave yet either.

(god i can't wait for friday already)

Excellent, truly excellent. And, for fun, compare and contrast to "Nextwave:" "Aaron Stack, you who were called Machine Man. You have traveled with us for three hundred and sixty cycles of your reckoning of time. There is now something we have to tell you. You are a total xxxx." And it gets better from there. Though Machine Man doesn't take it as well.

Probably the most hilarious Freakangels episode. More great quotes, more of evrything we like in FA.

It's been a shitty week. But let's not talk about the weather.

I thought that too, until I went back and read it, and relized she didn't say anything at all until after Sirkka erased her memories and told her that she really didn't like Luke to begin with, so we never really heard what she thought before the incident happened.

But you're right in that he did justify himself in the torture pit, instead of acting the victim. Oh well, just a thought.

We've seen where Arkady went: she's currently standing in Connor's vacated bedroom (see previous episode).

@Tam-Lin I think you mean "You are a total ????not ????, because whitechapel does not do unicode, apparently." And yes, feel free to copy that into a text document for further use, although most people tend to have a ? key.

I think that was the funniest, most disgusting, jaw-on-the-floor weird monologue I have ever read. Paul's use of perspective really exaggerated the mania of Luke's little speech - once more the Freakangels team show us a perfect synergy of word and image. I love this comic.

So i'm trying to take things easy, rest and recover, a little light exercise, a stroll in the countryside and the like, nothing too strenuous.
And then along comes 0098 - where do i begin? The finger in the brain? 'Well take your finger out then'? Luke's heroic blood dripping oratory? And then the glorious revelation: 'Luke, you're still a complete wanker'
I laughed so bloody hard i thought i'd burst, or possibly shit myself, or both.
I swear, Warren Ellis is trying to kill me and Paul Duffield and chums are helping him along.

One of the panels reminds me of one of the covers for Darrow/Miller 's Hardboiled.
