New week's releases should be up at http://www.piccadillyrecords.com at some point today, if they're not already - just choose a genre from left and click "magic mix" to stream excerpts from the new releases.
I'm tired. I'm listening to Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O, Mono, M Ward and Growing.
I Often Dream of Trains by Robyn Hitchcock. I was unaware of him until Tuesday and now I feel like I've wasted every year of my life until then by not listening to this album. I discovered his work in the best way possible, live. I bought tickets to see him at the South Bank Centre in London because Rasputina were the support act, stuck around for Robyn Hitchcock performing this album and had an excellent time. I bought the CD on my way out.
I might take a break from just listening to the same album over and over again later and put Dusty Foot Philosopher by K'naan on. Possibly the best hip hop album of all time, in my opinion.
My listening habits have become more stagnant than usual, lately. I've mostly been listening to podcasts and the same shit I listened to in the 90's. I need to stroll through these music threads and find something new.
I have been listening to a lot of Bad Company lately, since my brother's band just did a show with them over the weekend.
stuff i vaguely remember over the weekend and today... CHICAGO'S ON FIRE AGAIN- 7" compilation with mk-ultra, charles bronson, los crudos, kung fu rick etc CHARLES BRONSON/ ICE NINE-split 7" (my favorite songs from each band, conveniently on one piece of wax) ORCHID-chaos is me 12" ep (probably the best example of mid 90s chaosviolence you could possibly find) CONVERGE-jane doe 2x12" (the zenith of their recordings- so varied and great) DECEMBERISTS-the crane wife 2x12" (warm and fuzzy) MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE-life on the murder scene cd (live album from my favorite pop band) BREATHING FIRE-s/t (more power violnce...) HASSAN I SABBAH-the non labeled 7" (still more of the chaos violence) JEANxSEBERG (kinda meh french grindcore) CELEBRITY MURDERS- island of the rats one sided 7" (NYHC) DOWN IN FLAMES-start the fucking fire 7" (jersey dudes rippin shit up a la JERRYS KIDS) ..and a few more i dont recall right now.
i've been enjoying re-listening to Morphine, having not listened to them for a several years (tainted by an association with one parasitic fuckface i once dated.)
also Catpower, the Gossip, the dukes, Hot Chip and various other goodies on a mix CD one of my girls made for me.
MISS KITTIN: "BATBOX" Just downloaded from iTunes. I was kind of "eh" with her last release, "I COM" (I think I was just sick of "Requiem for a Hit"), but man, this new one really grabbed me by the neck and slammed my face on the coffee table.
Produced by the always excellent Pascal Gabriel, who does wonders with quirky female singers (he manned the boards for Claudia Brucken's criminally overlooked and mis-marketed 1991 solo album "Love: And A Million Other Things").
