Let the suicidal package arms race begin... Go!

Happy 100s, here's to the second freaky century!
  1.  (8397.82)
Can page one be the cover for next volume? please?

was wondering how long KK was going to let Luke prattle on...

maybe Jack won't be so self-centered now that his center has been damaged?

who wants to bet that Kait wears steel-toed boots?
  2.  (8397.83)
ps- Jack's face on page 6? lolz

Completely missed this yesterday, as I fell out of bed and into the car to pick the wife up at the airport. Nice to have her back after a week.

Well, we all knew it'd be KK who interrupted Luke. Maybe didn't see her doing it with a chair, but that's KK for you, I guess? Methinks Luke's rant perhaps cut her a bit deeper than she's letting on with her explanation. She's more angry now about him being right than she is about her bike - though I've no doubt it was all about her bike up to that point.

And Kait ... well, we knew compassion wasn't her strong suit. I have a hard time believing this is the same little girl who was so upset about finding a dead bird that she tried to resurrect it with her package. I wonder what turned her from a sweetie like that into what she is now? Hmm ... I suppose finding out that your powers explode whatever you're trying to heal might eventually sour a disposition...

Something tell me though, that was a 'you're going nowhere' kick in the balls, and not a 'don't let the door hit your ass on the way out' kick in the balls. She's WAY too much of a control freak to let him walk away from this. And seeing as how any semblance of control she thought she had just went down in flames around her the past few episodes? I expect her to REALLY crank up the terror.

I'm still waiting for the reaction shot of Alice when she see's Luke walking and talking again. That's going to be fun.

And eventually, Mark IS going to wake up. Not that all those people he's turned into drones will care a whit if he is or isn't awake, I think. And the way the group is tearing itself apart right now - that may be what it takes to bring them all together again.

I know Luke's explanation/lecture of the FreakAngel package needed to happen, and was entertaining all the while, but gawd damn I was wondering when KK was goind to knock Luke the fuck out for his shooting-spree on her and her bike.

    Also, love the Steampunk FreakAngels..."fortress"..."home"...?

To top it all off, Kait kicks Jack in the groin and nether regions, and it's seriously the only logical and appropriate response.

Some of you dudes, I dunno!

Functionally immortal or not, if someone tried to kill me, a clonk to the head would be a very generous turn in kind.

Wow, I was a little behind due to crazy shit in real life, but wow.
I've never read more than one in a row before, and I just read 5. I've just been with it-- for... 100 episodes?? Wild.
    Congratulations.
Seriously though, I can't wait for Kait to kill Jack so he can become SuperJack. He's always been the coolest anyway.
And that horrible fucking KK... gotta love her.

Just a random thought here(which might be completly off)but what if Luke was wrong?I mean HE is immortal and survived being shot in the guts and in the head, but what if he was the only one toKnow how to/have unlocked that fonction of the package?I mean Arkady is the only one knowing how to teleport and karl the only one knowing how to shift weather patterns,so what if Luke's self healing ability developed itself to that point as a result of being hit and shot very often?I mean kirk had to be hospitalised after being shot by Luke, while Luke was still able to walk and fight after that.
Also congrats for number 100...Dang poor jack.

Arkady has also seen the FutureFreaks; we were first introduced to them when she drowned. Mark came back to life too. No, I think we can be pretty sure about this. They cannot die.

Especially if the FutureFreaks *are* the same freaks, but in/from 'the future': even if they can die, their all existing in the future shows that they won't die / haven't died.

    @Fan

That's assuming the FutureFreaks are "alive" in any meaningful sense of the word. The idea of the package being some sort of EM field has hefty ramifications. They can't "die" but they can certainly CHANGE. Seeing -- and communicating -- through time is a BIG THING.

@Nakedcelt:and yet in the first episodes(can't recall the exact number)Arkady said that she knew when Luke would die,and that she basically saved him by "overdosing"him,so that would mean they can die.Concerning Mark we are not truly sure he died:the only thing we know is that karl and Kirk FELT his brain go offline, but keep in mind that neither are really trained killers and that neither of them are trained medics, and there are states, like coma, that are very close to death, and to untrained people it might seem just like it,also there are people that just went clinically dead one or two minutes and then "came back"and went into deep coma.

They're definitely human. They act just like humans, solving problems with dominance and violence. If they hadn't ended the world they still would have been locked up and studied, although perhaps their powers would have let them come up with a less drastic solution--but THEY'RE KIDS! The responsibility and good judgment bits and pieces of the brain don't grow in until they're a bit older. KK was looking him right in the hole in the back of the head when she hit him. She's back to my favorite again. I missed a bit and read everything from the last interlude in one sitting. YAY! Great art, the quality of leaky blood bits during the monologue was so good it got distracting. Usually I read an episode then go back and look at the art, but this time I kept getting interrupted from the flow to stop and look at the art. The back shot of the hole in head was so good I got slightly queasy (with a big that's fuckin' great art! grin on my face;). Happy 100th. Thanks guys, you're both the best--Warren at mind fucking me over and over and over--and Paul at imagining it all in a way that seems perfect and surprising and inevitable. I'm so happy--but! Got my dual signed volume 4. For the first time I'm unhappy. The colors are VERY dingy and muddy compared to the other three and the online version. It made me pull out my other three and compare. There's definitely something wrong with it. Still great fun to read it straight through. Eventually whenever this is over I'll read the whole thing through in hard copy.

It's Episode 11 page 6, and what she says is "Yesterday, you were going to control and assault Janine, and Sirkka was going to pick up on it. There was going to be a big group trial, and you were going to lose your temper, and everyone was going to get together and kill you."
If that means "they can die", it means more specifically that Luke can die -- but even by your reasoning, Luke is the one FreakAngel we know is immortal. Jack has killed Luke, but Luke is alive. He has "died" in that he has undergone death, but he "has not died" in that he is not dead. I would think the same would apply had things gone as Arkady foresaw.

What about Arkady? Was she also "dead" during her overdose at 14? Was she "dead" when she saw the "Future Angels" just recently?

I ask because I'm wondering if it's not so much that the 'angels can't die, but that they can't kill. At least, they can't kill each other. Mark "died" when Karl and Kirk spiked his brain. Luke "died" when Jack shot him in the head. The act of murder is an intimate one, especially among people as closely tied as the 'angels. Perhaps there was a built-in safeguard in the package that the only thing deadly conflict would do within the 'angels is strengthen then. Not much point in killing your fellow 'angel when the only thing that'll happen his he/she will come back stronger than ever.

Maybe the reason Mark sent Alice was to test that. To see if a non-Freakangel could kill a Freakangel.

Interesting concept. But I'm not sure how much stock I'd place in it, especially after it's been shown that Mark isn't exactly on the cutting edge of Freakangelology. I wonder if it has more to do with a 'psychic net' of their collected minds which would require all the Freakangels to be 'dead' at the same moment to stop them from coming back. Another question is if the psychic consciousness of an individual Freakangel transcends time/space so that they cannot die simply because they exist at other points in the continuum? More likely it could just be their future selves delivering a cross-temporal psychic defib, which leaves traces of more refined psychic energy/experiences.

    Or not.

I'm still waiting for the reaction shot of Alice when she see's Luke walking and talking again. That's going to be fun.

    Oh yes, prease.

Ouch! Never turn your back on a pissed cop! I suspect she kicked him there to suppress her desire to fuck his brains out.

For the anniversary issue: the return of the chair leg of truth!

Luke’s rape raised the question: is rape really rape if it can be reversed? We had the debate, and we know the answer: absolutely.

The murders of Mark and Luke raise a similar question: is homicide really homicide if the death can be reversed? It’s the same answer: absolutely it is still homicide, which means the perpetrators: Karl, Kirk, Jack and possibly Alice are absolutely murderers.

The question isn’t whether it’s homicide but whether the homicide is justifiable. WHITECHAPEL defends itself from external threats all the time. Is that murder or defense? Are Luke and Mark not enemies of the state, considering the added threat that the package gives them?

The real problem with justice as the FA defined it is the long-term plan. Namely, there isn’t one. Once they exiled Mark it was only going to be a matter of time before someone else got exiled, and then someone else, and then someone else. So the next obvious step is to just kill them, like Arkady warned Luke was about to happen, and have that be the deterrent. But what do you do when the guilty parties (Mark, Luke, Kirk, Karl, Jack and maybe Alice) almost outnumber the prosecutors? Luke proved lock-up doesn’t work. Mark showed exile doesn’t work. And now execution is no longer possible.

Are the twelve FA at the end of the story sitting next to each other as a way of keeping a permanent eye on each other? Seems more like hell than heaven!

As for what the FA actually are, I’ve got a couple more theories. It's about to get real nerdy, so forgive me in advance...

There's an esoteric school of thought that believes the first man, Adam, was a plant-based life-form, who cell-divided to create Eve, the first woman, and the snake in the Garden of Eden represents an evolution from plant-based life forms to animal-based. When Jack asks "Is an egg a fruit or a vegetable?" he's unknowingly touching on a forgotten aspect of evolutionary history. Luke the animal would die after being shot in the head, but his vegetable spirit would live on for a while until the cells are no longer nourished by blood. He's still bleeding, which means his spirit is still making the organs work, even after suffering injury that would kill an animal. But if you shoot a head of lettuce it will still grow just fine. If the FA are the next step of human evolution, they can draw energy from the spirit world to defy the physical laws, and alternate between the vegetable, mineral and animal forms at whim. Arkady can dissolve the material forms altogether and relocate them elsewhere, which means they can transform into pure spirit.

    The FA are ancient gods.

Also: the number twelve corresponds to the zodiac, which is more than just your horoscope: the zodiac is the history of the twelve ages of mankind. Luke said twenty or thirty years in the future. The FREAKANGELS could potentially live a lot longer than that…
