I've recently discovered that podcasts and radio comedies make better time-fillers when at the gym than music. Right now I'm only listening to The Bugle from timesonline and I'm looking to add some. Not interested in music-based podcasts, that's kind of defeating the point, does anyone have any they'd recommend?

I listen to lots of radio as podcasts, recently there was a great interview on NPR show Fresh Air. Ed burns one of the writer creators of HBO's series The Wire talks about the series his background as a police and teacher in Baltimore and some of the actors who came from the streets of Baltimore..

I think the Wire is one of the best TV shows of the last ten years. I recommend the interview

I've really been enjoying Escape Pod. It features a weekly sci-fi short story - some of them classic, others fresh and new.

also, the "podiobook" work-in-progress, "Playing For Keeps" by Mur Lafferty has been pretty great so far. definitely not comedy, but a quality podcast. Radio Open Source was the first "terrestrial broadcast" which incorporated blogging and podcasting into something worthwhile, at least the McArthur people thought so (one of them fancy genius grants). Christopher Lydon claims to have done the first podcast with some influencial überwebnerd whom i forget... anyway, the show tanked on public radio, a smart interview show living on stuffy wgbh arts radio which generally played boring symphonies and theater. this fall, it came back in podcast-only form and has a heavy international relations tilt due to funding from Brown University. still quality. really interesting "they were right" series following up with those folks who bought a full page ad saying "war with iraq is not in america's best interest" before the fact.
http://www.radioopensource.org/they-got-it-right-6-shibley-telhami/

i think the previous shows are still archived. it just had that Sacks guy who's studying music in the brain using fMRI.

It's not uncommon for me to laugh out loud on the train or at work to some of the antics the players get up to or the situations the GM paints.

Heroic Cthulhu - currently modern day. Mix of horror/strange & stories taken from CSI/Bones et al for the players to investigate. Older stuff is set in the 1930's. I like The Yog-sothoth cephalo-podcast. It is all about H.P.Lovecraft with a heavy emphasis of Role-playing Call of Cthulhu. They have several recordings of themselves playing Call of Cthulhu scenarios that are hilarious. check out Mask of Nyarlathotep and Horror on the Orient Express. It takes-up alot of time. I also like Penny-arcade's podcast: Downloadable Content, a daily online comic, the less reliable podcast is basically a recording of them coming-up with the comic idea for that day. Comic book readers will love Fan Boy Radio which is actually a podcast of an hour-long radio show. They've had great comic book writers and artists on as well as some cool actors and music artists. I enjoyed the interview with Wil Wheaton. The World War Z podcast has some excerpts from the book. It is basically a promotion for the audio book though. There is a Frankenstein podcast which is the entire book on audio, that'll be some fun listening. And If you like listening to people talk about the video game industry you'll love the Game Theory Podcast. Those are most of the ones I listen to and none of them are music.

I already approve of many things already mentioned: pseudopod and Escape pod, as well as This American Life. Anything you can find featuring Mur Lafferty reading her work is also worthwhile. In addition to stuff already mentioned, she has an ongoing fantasy/magical realism series called Heaven (season 2 is called Hell, and so on...) dealing with adventures in the afterlife that's pretty nice. Her stuff is delightfully fun, and she's a great reader/narrator.

To that, I add Dan Savage's Savage Lovecast. If you've ever read his print column, just imagine that with him fielding recorded questions from listeners, often calling them and interacting with them in the podcast.

My hero The Amazing Randi has a podcast, but I've only listened to one episode so far, so I can't vouch for it yet. Though I have high hopes.

Last: though I have yet to read his fiction, I've found a bunch of stuff by SF author Rudy Rucker (find him on itunes podcast search), some fiction reading, some lectures that are all fascinating.

I'm addicted to podcasts, video and audio. I'm subscribed to too many to list here, but her's a few of my favorites...

Alive in Baghdad
This weekly video podcast is put together by Iraqi journalists on the ground and involves a variety of topics, from corruption in the passports bureuas to the efforts to clean up a soccer field in Basra. It attempts to show life in Iraq through the eyes of the people who have to live and work there. It is informative and eye opening, and if you have any interest in what's going on in Iraq, I recommend it.

Ask a Ninja
Stupid and hillarious is about all I can say. May not be to your taste, but I like the Stoopid Funny.

The Best of the Left
This is a weekly podcast that aggregates clips from across the left-wing media spectrum, from Keith Olberman to the Young Turks. It's a good way to pick up on anything you might miss from the real "liberal media" on a weekly basis.

Crackle
I get several video podcast from here, including "Penn Says" which is just Penn Jillete talking shit for several minutes every other day or so, there's also a short film podcast, a sketch comedy podcast, and several others. Good stuff.

Tiki Bar TV
This seems to come out at random, and is more dumb fun. Also includes a drink recipe with every episode.

Enjoy...

-CD

 Four of my favourites...

BBC Radio 2 - Russell Brand
BBC Radio 2 - Jonathan Ross
Stephen Fry Podgrams
Andy Collins and Richard Herring

Rather UK-centric and I think all are on iTunes. Not sure about where you go for them if you aren't an iTunes person.

The first two are basically Radio shows with the songs cut out, presumably for copyright reasons. Considering the general BBC Radio playlists this is a good thing. They are mostly interviews and chats with guests and other radio show things.

Stephen Fry's is basically a spoken blog.

Collins and Herring is an amateur one by a former BBC radio presenter (Collins) and a stand-up comedian (Herring), created on one of their laptops. It's basically a funny review of the news in the newspapers following on from a segment of Collins' former BBC Radio 6 show where Richard Herring would be a guest on one day for a paper review.

Hey redben - I have quite a few i follow.

no music? so talk and stories? and humor...

well for comics relates stuff i have a vested interest in Indie Spinner Rack [feed], and i quite like Quiet! I have a fetish for science, culture and philosaphy stuff and along those lines I'd highly recommend All in the Mind, Ideas: How to think about science, Search Engine, Diffusion, In Conversation, Jay Ingram's Theater of the Mind, Ockham's Razor, On The Media, ehr...that's probably enough of that but there's more if it's wanted.

For humor i like The Onion, and...uh, all the others i like are video...your just looking for audio right?
