Danzig - Deth Red Sabaoth - I'm liking this so far, much more than the last couple of releases. The only thing that approaches a complaint is that there are a few places where the mix is a little amateur-sounding. That really adds to the album in some cases (old Misfits stuff, for example), but here it pulls me out of the album and I end up trying to figure out what sounds weird. Dude's voice is sounding pretty good these days though.
According to Last.FM my top albums this week have been:
Gonjasufi - A Sufi And A Killer Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope Liars - Sisterworld Nachtmystium - Addicts Earth - Hex: Or Printing The Infernal Method Melt-Banana - Bambi's Dilemma Twilight - Monument to Time End Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma Daughters - S/T
That said I know I've listened ot Nadja's Autopergamene more than the rest of them.
Turns out that one of these Witch House acts - ///???\\\ - is from Canberra and is playing a gig on Tuesday in Sydney. Shall be checking that out.
Also, last night, my roommate was listening to the 45 RPM re-release of "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica at 33 RPMs and it blew my mind. It sounds like the greatest sludge/doom record ever.
I just bought "We Brave Bee Stings and All" by Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. Laura Veirs is on there a little too. They have a more recent album that came out last year I believe. Thao can rock that fucking banjo Lonely Drifter Karen also makes me happy
Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...
Unfortunately I have to wait 'til I get home to listen to them. Heard a fair amount of Endtroducing... and loved it, just never got around to buying it until now. As for Flying Lotus, it's Flying Motherfucking Lotus.
They Might Be Giants- Apollo 18 (a lot. over and over and over. It'd be the best album of the year for me if it wasn't released almost 20 years ago.) Look What I Did- Atlas Drugged (saw them again the other night. Always forget how much I like them til I wear out my neck dancing to their set.) Faith no More- King For a Day... (Almost always listening to this.)
Pitchfork made me go back and spend some more lovely time with Ramadanman's 'Don't Change For Me'. I was about six years old when jungle happened, so I'm gonna have to stick with what the present-day dubstep community are churning out. I don't think it's that bad a deal.
Simon Reynolds made me go pick up Aphex Twin's Chosen Lords album again. And again, I was a toddler in the early 90s so I missed out, but the throwbacks sound pretty fracking amazing.
Godflesh - Streetcleaner 2xcd remaster/reissue/bonus disc (about time, and the unreleased mixes etc are actually cool) Killing Joke - In Excelsis EP (fuck yes!)
Scorn - Refuse/Start Fires & the recent Nadja releases are still getting airtime, but not today!
