I think considering that it was inevitable that changes were going to be made to the original it still looks like a pretty solid film. The new team looks like a funny and efficient one with damn good chemistry.
Looks cool, although quite a bit lighter fare than the book (at least in the way the trailer is edited...). Admittedly, it's been a few years since I've read it (since it came out in singles...), but was there the ragtag crew of ex assassins in the book? It was only three issues... I know that there had to be some padding. In any case, it looks like a fun time.
I would have loved to see the grim tone of the book being adapted to the film, but there is no way I can complain about a movie with Morgan Freeman punching Richard Dreyfuss, Helen Mirren shooting people and John Malkovich doing anything. Looking forward to it.
Kind of disappointed by the plot changes, but everything Andre said. This flick had me at John Malkovitch eating acid every day for twelve years. Nice to see Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer in the trailer credits, though.
The changes don't bother me one bit, since I own the comic and can read it's awesomeness at any time. The movie looks like lots of fun, and seeing that cast in action is fantastic.
See, if I was coming to this without expectation, just looking at a Bruce Willis comedy/action flick, I'd probably think that looked like a decent time, and I'd probably put a small amount of effort into corralling my pals into seeing it in the theater. But I was looking forward to seeing RED...
...and that's just not it.
Perhaps I should be working harder on releasing attachment. Gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate, bodhi svaha...
Mary Louise Parker...what can you say? Jesus. That is all.
I haven't read Red, nor have I heard much about this at all. This could be one of those things that goes either way. I couldn't figure out--from the trailer, at least--whether this was supposed to be more dark comedy or action movie.
Maybe it's trying to be both, which could end badly. Very few movies can have dark comedy and big action sequences in it...the only ones that come to mind right off the bat are Edgar Wright's stuff, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Bruce Willis has made enough flops that he has to prove to me that he's in a good film, I don't automatically assume it anymore.
I'm not quite sure why this movie is titled Red, seeing as the original story seems like an idea that inspired a completely different movie, but it looks like a ton of fun anyway.
So...I take it a lot was changed from the comic then? I mean, if I hadn't known from the get-go, and then someone told me this was based on a comic by Warren Ellis, I would have thought they were fucking with me.
But this does look pretty fun. I'll definitely have to give it a shot.
