2010 is half over already. Distract yourself from the existential horror caused by the ravages of time by telling us what albums have impressed you so far this year.
A few I have really enjoyed:
Murder By Death - Good Morning, Magpie Gaslight Anthem - American Slang Danzig - Deth Red Sabaoth Deftones - Diamond Eyes High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire - Songs Of Ill-Hope and Desperation
Agree with Crystal Castle II, Deftones' n Danzig's new ones. I'll throw in:
O Children's Debut (forget the title) purely because they TRIED to synthesize the awesomeness of Joy Division and Bauhaus (however badly they failed) AND How to Destroy Angels EP (counts, donit?)
The only stuff I have from 2010, apparently, is How to Destroy Angels (which I find to be alright, but nothing amazing) and Melissa auf Der Maur's Out of Our Minds, which is about on par with her last album, but features a duet with fuckin' Danzig, which I think is probably the best new song I've heard in something like three years.
ETA: Holy run-on sentence. I should throw a few more commas in there, just 'cause.
THE BESNARD LAKES, The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night EVELYN EVELYN, Evelyn Evelyn LOS CAMPESINOS!, Romance Is Boring THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS, Together
One album I was really disappointed in was the new MGMT. Utter dreck.
Alcest's Écailles de Lune is about the only album from this year that I've heard thus far which really stands out. I suppose maybe Gil Scott-Heron's I'm New Here. We'll see. And I still have to give Red Sparowes' The Fear is Excruciating, but Therein Lies the Answer a good listen. I'm interested in hearing the new Anathema and Nevermore albums which have recently been released and Lupe Fiasco's Lasers when it finally drops. Hopefully, it'll be on a par with Food and Liquor and The Cool.
